Boy I must say that Fuel efficient oils aka oils that give you better gas mileage or lets just say more miles per tank/fill up has got to be all the rage right now due to insane gas prices..

but the problem or dilemma has to be to identify which oils actually save gas for you and more specifically if a particular oil saves gas for your particular application but perhaps not others.. confused? shouldn't be..

I'm simply asking for nominations for which oils are the most fuel efficient and my first nominee goes to Ford Motorcraft by CP and it's stellar cousin/sibling, the All-Season synthetic blend.

Now I am not trying to challenge any notions on any particular oils (*ahem* M1, RP) nor any particular categories of oils (*ahem* synthetics, boutiques) but simply trying to offer my nominee and hope you have some for yourself and would like to nominate them here as well as offer some proof.

My nominee again is CP products namely the MC and its relative the Super All Season Syn Blend and the proof is getting 80 more miles per tank on back-to-back OCIs where I use this oil and the other(s) being M1 and PP.

Enjoy..(flame suit On)

My take on this subject is that: any motor oil that is/are certified for use in your particular engine type/design/applications (consult your owner's manual for that matter) and comes with proper certifications (ILSAC/API) with additional API "starburst" certifications will shall be able to provide you with the needed gas saving properties.

I would lay more emphasis on mechanical designs, etc. to acquire the much needed fuel economy than just merely focusing on oil that provides additional fuel economy (than others of different viscosities).

Q.

i agree with v6, the MC synblend gets very good mileage...i was averaging 37mpg on my ford focus

If we could get anywhere near 80 more miles from a tank of gas due to the oil brand, that would be beyond remarkable! [I also use MC, BTW]

It is the viscosity [thickness] that is the most important factor when comparing oils for power or gas mileage.

Silly me I thought it was how many cars the oil sponsored that turned left, or the pretty charts that say 4x less wear! I'll have to actually look at the spec sheets from now on!

Isn't the HTHS a pretty important factor in gas mileage? Personally I could care less about oil for mileage. Teaching people how to drive would save more money than the .5mpg or so the oil may give.

haha you gotta be sick in the head to not care about mileage. seriously.. real talk. you're never gonna teach people how to drive or make them save gas to reduce our reliance on oil or to lower greenhouse effect or ozone etc.. heck even Gore can do that.. It would be better if we stop buy big tanks to tote 100 pound soccer moms to the nail salon.. and I see this happening..am I the only one?!

I find the biggest difference for MY vehicles is the brand of gasoline. Esso gets much like 50Km further on 40 bucks than Sunoco or Shell.

I do care about mileage, definately. It's just that in my TL I get nearly 10mpg better than the girlfriend in the exact same car. I drive like an old man and she drives like I did when I was 16 and doesn't know any better. If there was an oil that offered even a 2mpg difference I might buy it but it seems like in real life there's an almost immeasurable difference from a 20 to a 30 to a 40 wt.
