Currently using Mobil 1 Extended filters but considering these Fram too. What is your thought and why.

Purolator or Wix. Mobil 1 is a good filter, don't get me wrong, but they're just another flavor of the Champion Labs filter that gets sold under many brand names. Its great, its just not worth the price since you can get the same thing for so much less. I prefer the anti-drainback and bypass mechanisms in Wix filters, personally.

I'm with 440. Wix which is also sold as Napa and Carquest, or Purolator which is also sold as Bosch.

The M1's and Extended guards are good, but I'd take a napa gold or pureone over them, and they probably cost less than either.

Fram gets a bad rap for their toughguard lowest line of filters, their better stuff ain't bad from what I've seen. But I've only seen pictures.

That Fram is much better than their standard filters in design which is what most arguments are about. I would have no issues running it if the price was reasonable.

The Mobil 1 filter is a top of the line filter and would be hard to beat except by maybe a Purolator Pure One.

Depends on what your thoughts are on filters. Is price important or is the filter most important?

Sort of... Just remember that while the Champion Labs filters share "skeletal structure" (for the most part, excluding things like the nut on the KN), the filter elements are different on different CL-made brands. You can see this when you cut them open. The filter element on the M1 is of a plainly different texture and color than that of a KN, STP, or what-have-you. Whether the different filter medium is worth the price -- that's up to you.

Of all the FRAMs, that one looks the best ... only one I'd consider ever using.

What's the cost of the Extended Guard? ... I've never priced them.

BTW ... you could use full synthetic with any of their filters ... but the filter change interval would differ based on which filter used. See their note #5.

Up here in Canada they sell at Canadian Tire and Part Source for $12.99, but I just got one on sale for $9.99 for my Corvette. The NAPA Gold has crept up in price and is now around $14 for my Vette. They do go on sale for less than that, but not very often and the nearest NAPA is about 20 miles away. A new Part Source just opened up and is only five minutes from my house. And I really think the Extended Guard is a well put together filter, so even taking price and convenience out of the equation, I still think it's a good choice for me. If you'd told me even a month ago that I'd be running a Fram filter on my Corvette I would've laughed, but I really think the Extended Guard is a quality built piece that is nothing at all like the shoddy Extra Guard or Tough Guard filters (which IMO are the worst filters on the market)

There just isn't a huge amount of high quality oil filters up here, we can't get the Mobil 1, and the K&Ns cost $17.99 each (even when on sale they are more than the Fram XG) And I can't remember the last time I saw a place that sold the PureONE (or even the regular Purolator filters for that matter)

$7.97 at Wally, might as well say 8 bucks. If I couldn't find a less expensive, equally good alternative, which I can, I'd have no hesitation to put this on the Honda OLM and take it out to the 10-15% level, or 10k, or one year.

Beyond the name Fram on the can/box, no relation to the OCofD.

As brought up by Patman, in Canada the Ext Guard could be a real value.

The AAP near me carriers an extensive line of Mobil 1 oil filters for $13.98 each, at least for my models. The Wally World literally 500 feet behind them has a very limited selection, 4 I think, for $7.97 each. Luckily 2 of the 4 fit all 3 of our vehicles

. The Extended Guard is the same price. So for me that makes the Mobil 1 oil filter a no brainer. But I wonder is WM is going to continue to carry Mobil1 oil filters, since it appears they have not restocked after I cleaned them out of my models. Is the Extended Guard the one that releases teflon into your oil? I remember one of the Fram's did, at least in the recent past.

I find it interesting that WM charges more for the "orange can of death", the Extra Guard, than they do for the Motorcraft FL820S.

NO. That would be like the 'high mileage' filter. No relation to the Extended Guard.

That's the problem, they've made so many doozies, that now when they make a good one, it's hard to believe.

Although it does have the dreaded cardboard end-caps, I think the Fram 'Toughgueard' filter is also a good one. Has good media, and looks well-built. They're $8 CAD at Wal-Mart.

It's weird - up here, Canadian tire sells Extraguard, Exteneded Guard, and the HM Fram filters, but not Toughguard. Wal-Mart sells Extraguard and Toughguard filters, but not the others.

FRAM actually makes TWO filters that release toxins into your motor...the DoubleGuard releases PTFE (Teflon), which DuPont, the inventor, emphatically states has NO BUSINESS being inside an internal combustion engine...and the "High Mileage with TRT" (Time Release Technology) filter, which releases some undisclosed miracle glop that supposedly replenishes the additive pack in the oil. Both filters are complete marketing [censored].

I just had a frightening thought: why do I know so much about FRAM filters?! AHHHHHHHH!

The Quaker state filters at Canadian tire should be made by purolator. i think at least.

Check Fram's website; they show a line of heavy duty filters for diesel trucks; not sure if consumer diesel trucks are included. The filter comes in three performance levels; the basic filter is orange, mid level is black and top level is silver. The top level filter is supposed to replenish something into the diesel engines, but it doesn't say exactly what. I wonder if the silver line will somehow be available for regular cars and trucks? I have no idea what the part numbers are or if any of these filters cross to automobile equivalents. I bet the line is limited to specific diesel engines.
