Was clearing out my mom's house a couple of years ago when she passed and I came across two cans of pcmo... Veedol and B/A. See attached photos.

The B/A can-top, that's self explanatory... but I have to admit the sae grade designation is a bit confusing to me... SAE 20-20W (not like how we'd write it today (i.e. 20W-20)... and also, it's confusing how it seems to be multigrade, but the second number appears to be the same viscosity as the first number.

The Veedol can top (barely) reads " 20 (20W) " and "For Services MN-ME"... or Services MN-ME.

Can anyone shed any light or comment?

Oh, btw, at least in Canada, B/A was the predecessor Company to Gulf.

I remember B/A gas stations in the 60's . My dad used to get his gas at B/A. I remember the Veedol name. It was a popular oil in the past.

The winter grade only means the oil was tested for winter grades. I don't think there's anything in the rules that says you can't have a 20W-16
So, does that mean the testing for "W" designation is at a lower temp than the regular viscosity testing? I need to get up to speed on this... probably should look at the tech section..., White Papers, etc.

The testing for viscosiy grade info is all in SAE J300. The "W" (Winter) grades are tested cold (the xW part of xW-yy) for cold weather cranking and pumpability, and the hot KV100 (Kinematic Viscosity at 100C) is the yy part of xW-yy. Example: 5W-30.

I guess, for all the space they take up, I should just keep them on a shelf in my garage (as display items) once I build a decent garage...? 'Kinda links me to my long-since passed Dad who was a HD mechanic. That and all his tools, which I cherish to this day. Pity, though, my two son-in-laws have next-to-zero interest in them 🙁. I suppose that had my wife and I had boys there's also no guaranty that they'd be interested either.

Sorry, I shouldn't be sexist, here. Girls could be interested too.
