Found cat

To fend off a cougar? If that's truly a serious concern the least I'd want in my hand is a powerful bear spray canister. First choice of course would be whatever firearm is legal.
And check wind direction - had an engineer at work who never lived that story down 😵‍💫

Bear spray won’t fend off a cougar. They hunt based on pheromones & bad choices; they prefer taking young meat for sport rather than old meat for security of the kill. It’s really kind of sadistic when you think of their hunting habits…

So the cougar stalking the woman with the stick was just toying with her like a cat does with a bird it caught? Too old to eat?

I'd take my chances with bear spray over a stick.

Read my post again with sarcasm on your mind… 😉
Oh, you mean like...

I guess when you actually have MOUNTAIN LIONS around you take them kinda seriously.

Maybe spraying myself with Feliway will prevent a mountain lion from considering me a meal?

Rock exploration in AK with a 10mm or maybe I mixed him up
Oh, he's a sedimentary hound, right? For cave exploration, I recommend a Rolex Explorer 2. That's the only time you will ever see me recommend a Rolex. They do have bears in the Ozarks. Bears, caves, and a geologist make for a risky mix. Bon chance, TiGeo!

I wouldn't be surprised to find out we're living in some cougar's territory.

The lady who backed down the road with the cougar following her poked a stick at it the whole way. It swatted at the stick but that kept it at bay.

For many kinds of animal confrontations (eg bears) you want to make yourself look really big. Waving a stick over your head helps.

Having a stick is better than nothing. At night the dog and I are never more than 30' from the patio door. And my wife is standing behind the door. At night we're a formidable bunch (as if)!

It takes some time for bear spray to work.

Hope I’m not too late. Don’t pet it! Try to let it get acclimated with your other pets first to see if it’s a keeper
