I didn't feel like crawling around on the garage floor to change my own oil and I had a $12 off coupon for the JL, so I took my 09 Malibu in for one of their 15 minute Signature service Oil changes, expecting to get PZ 5w30. Instead they were using Formula Shell in bulk. Nothing wrong with Formula Shell, just surprised since JL advertises PZ all the time. BTW: their price is up to $40 now for a plain old dino OC here in the Memphis area. Absurd.

That because unless you specify which oil, they just give you their bargain brand, in this case Formula shell. Pennzoil, QS all run a higher cost oil change.

Sound like a chevy dealer would be cheaper and you might get a better quality champion AC DELCO filter. SO did they mess anthything up? They ALWAYS do around here.

I dislike changing oil out on the drieway at -20C during the Winter in a storm - but ive done it more than a couple times - and on the wifes car at that! Changing the oil in a nice cement floor garage would be creeper heaven!

I used to be able to find minimum of 1 thing that a quickie lube did wrong. I've never gone to one, and never intend to.

JL is a independent franchise it would not surprise me if you found one that featured Valvoline some in Indiana feature Lucas Conventional.

Where I live, they charge pretty much $100 for a basic oil change with conventional oil. That is why I got into doing it myself. It also allows me to make sure a FRAM oil filter goes onto the engine block.

So you can be sure you personally overpaid for that orange can? Hmmm? LOL

The Jiffy Lube by me advertise PZ. They have youngsters dancing out front next to traffic like the greedy tax services, pizza places etc. Right down the road is a SpeeDee lube place, little further is a Econo-Lube. What is it with all these in & out lube shops...
Friend (different city) says his Jiffy Lube even has Amsoil service and will do motor homes and motorcycles. Wonder if they are trying to change services cuz I never heard of that before.

If I don't do it myself, I'd probably have a reputable family own ma/pa shop do it - dunno

They didn't mess anything up. I was able to stand there and watch them. They actually did a nice job and didn't try to upsell me on anything. They used a PRO-Line filter, whatever that is.

Thats good. If you find one managed well then you might be OK. I hope they are using better oil filters than they used to which had les than minimum media are according to Knize family investgations.

I prefer to do my own or go to a mechanic for them...the quick lubes are my last choice and would rather pay a dealer since it costs about the same...the kids they have holding the signs in front of them and dancing never look like I want them under my car maybe I am just particular and I am sure there are plenty that do a fine job but also I am well capable of doing it myself so why not
