It seems that many here appreciate and like to use Edge. The only complaint being the price.

I am currently using mobil 1 - I just wanted to try it out once since i have not used it on any car.

My 3.0 Ranger with 125k miles Doesn't run bad with it at all

What concerns me is the Fe. I just don't trust the mobil 1 and i can't believe the Fe is part of the add pack. Not without concrete and confirmed truth.

And so - mobil 1 will now lose a customer. I feel that their performance is lackluster and overpriced based on the UOAs i saw. Although Mobil 1 may keep engines clean, i feel that it can not regulate wear as much as other synthetic oils. And if i'm wrong - my peace of mind is worth it; because these UOAs aren't pretty.

I wanted to switch to Castrol edge but I am also considering valvoline Syn power.

If price was not an issue...lets pretend they both cost 10 dollars... which one would you guys use?

I do my oil changes every 3,000 miles... Yea - Flame on.

My transmission doesnt have over drive, the truck spends time at 3400RPMS most of the time. Any time i drive the truck, i never shut it off, i leave it on with the ac and idling. (i like the feel of a tactical ready truck in the GA weather)

I refuse to so much as touch a pennzoil product so PP is out of the question. I only use synthetics (i've seen the pictures on the search - synthetic engines always always look better than dino. I like my engines silver/gray and clean - not "normal golding and dino varnish")

Thank you for any advice on these 2 oils

I have had 3 3.0's over the years, one of the greatest gutless engines ever. I never used synthetics until the most recent truck. You do not sound able to be convinced to "step down" to the motorcraft 5w-20 or 5w30 that most people use, so just check around for the sales on castrol as much as you can.

Synthetics look better than dino because as a whole the owners keep on top of all other maintenance. A non operative pcv system with synthetic will look much worse than a dino example done right. Even a working pcv system that is poorly designed has sludge threads on this very board.

Edge would get my vote! However, even the Mobil 1 you are using currently would be fine to stick with. Mobil 1 will not wear engines out faster because of the alleged high Fe number.

edge seems to be liked around here. Edge it is then.
I'm going in the Airforce Basic next month, my job will be to read UOAs all day and perform the analysis of samples obtained from vehicles and aircraft.. sometthing tells me i'll be doing lots of free UOAs soon so i'll have lots of data to input on this site.

I have a 2005 ranger w/3.0 i use Quaker State 5w20 synthetic or motorcraft syn blend 5w20 does equally as well with either, i change oil around every 3-4 thousand.

Me I would check to see what changes they have gone through especially Edge with a drop in VI re0-20. Might be across the board let down. Synpower has a weak add pack the answer it has some Mystery additive you cannot see, So, again I would like to have better backgrounds even at 3k.

valvolin synpower has low add pack

mobil 1 has FE

Pennzoil/quakerstate/shell = sludge (just go with the flow for my point)

castrol syntec isn't real synthetic with sub par UOA

supertech is walmart brand - why buy it when other brands are a dollar more and more trust worthy

Royal Purple doesnt meet specs and is an underperformer

etc. etc. etc.

the point being - there are only 2 oils people Do not have an issue with ; from what i have seen.

Castrol Edge & Redline
