Well I guess I have gone and done it. The Deutsches Elves, who happen to monitor BITOG, saw my post on my changed thinking on oil, and to put it mildly, Sie waren heißer als ein Schnitzel frisch aus der Pfanne (they were hotter than a schnitzel fresh fresh from the skillet). They asked me to think back to die alten tage (the old days) and remember how it felt when GC was king and BITOG was probably the GC Center of the World. They are right...regardless of technological changes that have occurred since GC first appeared (and Castrol prides themselves in constantly updating their formulations) it IS and WILL ALWAYS BE die grünen Elixier vom Himmel (the Green Elixer from heaven). So in honor of Elvish magic from Coburg to Garmisch-Partenkirschen, Es lebe die grüne (long live the Green). Have some on your salad tonight!

I am with you here pscholte, at that time it was something like in the movie Matrix, GC GREEN WAS THE ONE. Long live the elves. Times change & so should we. But Castrol 0W30 is still the same. (except being GREEN). Still the same formula used by Castrol so that must prove something.

You know, r96...., there are times when I really do think that Das Grün was a formulation that has been tough to outdo...like a perfectly balanced and blueprinted racing engine that dominates the field.

Welcome back! I fondly remember your poetic-like postings about the Elves, the Black Forest, Green GC, and related things. I've enjoyed reading this entire thread due to the nostalgic feelings it generated and because of seeing fresh stories about the recent doings of the Elves.

JAG,

It is great to be back and to see so many retain a fondness für die Grüne Magie. No doubt Thomas Wolfe was right that you cannot go home again, but maybe we can at least get back to the nearest village.

For those who never heard the story and don't want to read the GC thread, I include how the Elves came to brew GC.

The deal with the Elves is this: in a thatched roof blending plant in der Schwarzwald (the Black Forest) Friedrich, Jürgen and Sascha led a team making some of das ausgezeichnetste Bier das bekannt ist zur Welt (the most excellent beer known to the world). The problem was they could never get it to the market at its peak of freshness because the truck kept breaking down (oil failure). SO, the diminutive ones blended and brewed their own oil. To make it obvious from other lesser formulae, they dyed it green with dye made from the green, green moss that grew in the little stream behind the blending plant. (It IS true that the original idea for the original color and fragrance comes from an incidental but not insidious induction of a batch of green Gummi Baren into the blending vat.) Now that GC has become the most exalted elixer ever experienced, they no longer need to dye it and so it carries its naturally brilliant glamorously golden glow............................and now you know The Rest of the Story.

It is so like the Elves to eat gummi bears while blending their elixirs and to accidentally drop one into the blending vat. Like the discovery of penicillin, what a fortunate turn of events that accident was.

You have succinctly described one of history's most beneficial "accidents."

Kudos

It's absolutely awesome to have you back on here pscholte! A lot has changed since you left! I stopped using GC when they went to the new gold formula, and am now running M1 in all of my cars! If you had told me I'd be doing that back then I would not have believed you!

I traded my 98 Corvette for an 05 model and also divorced and remarried and moved from Mississauga to Oakville (it's right beside Mississauga but a lot more rich people live here so I've got neighbors with Porsches, Aston Martins, Lambos and Ferraris which is nice!)

I hope you stick around here, I always enjoyed your posts!!

Oooooh! I've never seen that before!

I still have about 10 quarts of rebate era-GC I need to use in the ol' Mercury 3.0L at some point...

Patman/Nickdfresh,

Great hearing from both of you. Hard to believe it has been about 8 years since the beginning of GC mania. I still have remnants of my stash (I had about 200 quarts) and I use it in a 2008 Infiniti FX-35 and I still believe in it. But I also know time and technology change (the Elves have grey hair and beards now) and am open to the next GC. I am glad u still have some stash Nick.... And, Patman, glad to hear that you are pleased with what is going on in your life. A Vette is an appealing option (I remember when you got the first one) but I would LOVE to have a MASERATI should the opportunity present itself. Nothing on the horizon I assure you. I am back for the great people on this board as much as for the oil info and hope I can meaningfully contribute. Just for the record my "second oil" is Kendall GT-1 but, while I believe in it, alot has to do with the nostalgia of the old IMSA days.

But does it smell like gummy bears?

Welcome back old timer. Like you I'm from the early days of BITOG and really enjoyed your posts. I missed your tales of the Elves and your knowledge. Glad your back!

THE elfmeister is back !!! excellent !
in the last couple of years, bitog has become home to some who just want to hear themselves talk, start threads about inane subjects about which (almost) no one cares, a couple of "there's a commie behind every rock" type, and a few that are just plain goofy.these people make me laugh, so i guess that it's decent entertainment.
it's good to have an above-average-intelligence member back.as well, several months back, molakule started posting on a more regular basis.
maybe now, the board can get more intelligent, debate oriented threads. it's good to see you back.
p.s. -- i sure miss gary.

Thanks, yeti. It is good to be back. I am sorry to hear about the problems but that is represents a lot of today's Internet participants. I am confidant this board is still a great place to be and I look forward to interesting times ahead.

elfmeister -- "problems" is not really an accurate description. i guess bitog is just evolving, like any internet forum. it's mainly entertainment for me, and i win a lot of bets/pools predicting the actions of several posters.bitog is still a very high quality board, all things considered.
again, it's good to have you back.have a good night.
