I mainly drive a 08 honda civic sedan (Sometimes I drive my 01 Chevy Silverado) to work (I have a 1 way, 40.5 mile commute which starts at 500’ and ends at 4500’. No freeway, probably 10 traffic lights the first half, and no stop signs the last half-last half having the most elevation gain). The Honda has 18,000 on it now. I’ve been using mobil-1 5/20w since the 5,000 mile mark and change around the 5,000 mile mark.

I’ve been a Mobil-1 user for years and have had no problems with using it, but curious what other recommendations are out there.

I have never had any oil problens with any proper speced oil ever used since I started driving in 1967 !!!

but your oil choice is fine especially for extended oil change intervals "time or miles" with your driving conditions .

There are a few esoteric alternatives if you want to run longer between changes, but that's your call. Mobil 1 and 5,000 mile OCIs should be fine for you.

Going up Highway 67 towards Julian?

Any 5w-20 will be fine for your Honda. The conventional 5w-20 is really an excellent oil (any brand).

For the Silverado, I'd say any 5w30 (I like Pennzoil, Havoline or Valvoline) will be great.

On both follow the OLM and you'll be fine.

Take care, Bill

That would be quite a nice commute, I drove that way out of San Diego headed toward Borrego Springs. I'd certainly trade it for my horrible, traffic light ridden driven to work. Though it could be worse, I suppose.

Like Mobil1's 15k mile taxi test in Las Vegas?

Bogus beyond belief.
