I did a compression test today on my oldest Lawn-Boy mower and it was 120 psi. Mower is on its 16th mowing season with the original engine. Same compression as 6 years ago when I first started using Amsoil 100:1 2-stroke oil in the mower. Had been running at 80:1, or one 8oz. bottle per 5 gal. of gas. I am now running at 50:1 because of some of the negative posts I have read on this board about the Amsoil. The compression test has convinced me that the Amsoil 2-stroke oil is a good product. Hope this helps some who had doubts about Amsoil. BTW I'm not a dealer.

Now do the same test with Wal*Mart 2 cycle oil and see what you get.

Well, if the compression test was the same as it was 6 years ago You can reasonably make the assumption that no significant wear has occured. I don't shop at Wal-Mart anymore so Wal-Mart oil won't be getting tested by me.

I'm not a Amsoil dealer either...good post...good info....thanks for sharing.....it is real world experience that matters at the end of the day...I use Amsoil in my cars......nothing bad to say about it for sure.....

Most of what is said on this BB is conjecture and personal testimonials. It doesn’t mean the information is bad, in the same way advise from a friend is normally not bad. With respect to two stroke oils, it’s not like we have an easy and inexpensive way to evaluate them like we do with four stroke oil and used oil analyses. I continue to be pleased with the performance of the Saber. I liked the old stuff too.

Yep, if it works, why use anything different? When you buy by the quart, Amsoil @ 50:1 is actually a little cheaper than the OEM Lawn-Boy oil. Also forgot to mention that sparkplug is fairly clean and the inside of the muffler and exhaust port looks good. No signs of scuffing.

I've been doing 50:1 since the beginning of this mowing season. Mowers are running well, no smoke. The bottle says it can be used at ratios as rich as 50:1, so I'll try that for this season, take the muffler off and see if there are any deposits. I'm pretty sure the 50:1 ratio is overkill but hopefully some Amsoil dealers will respond and give their opinions too.

Did you do a exact side by side test of comparable dino oils and other synthetics to this Amsoil? Otherwise this is just an observation of one product. Doesnt really tell me anything.

I've been using Amsoil at anywhere from 80 to 100:1 in my Lawn-Boy and I've been very pleased with the performance. I once mentioned this on another lawn mower forum and I was met with a less then respectful reaction.

Any ratio beyond 32:1 was considered blasphemous by the luddites over there.

I've gotten the same response, however, I've run Amsoil at 100:1 in a brand new MTD(I think?) since last fall with no ill effects.

I think last year was the last for 2 stroke lawnboys'. What a shame! I've run all my 2 stroke products on 100:1 amsoil fo a few years now. They run great, easy starting, and very little smoke.

Funny, that LawnBoy 2 stroke makes maybe 6HP. Similar displacement 2 stroke engines make 45-50HP in modern dirt bikes. They last a long time now also.

It is no surprise that low powered, low revving large 2 stroke lasted a long time. Any oil would provide good results.

Not necessarily. Have seen a lot of exhaust port deposits from cheap oil. The Amsoil left noticeably fewer deposits than the L-B oil I have used in the past. Deposits can lead to scuffing and pinging.
