When it comes to torn media, I prefer to buy a filter that can hold itself together through the OCI. They've lost my interest long before getting to the point where it might blow up an engine.

No kiddin' ... if it takes an engine blowing up for someone to stop using filters that tear, then the same logic applied to smoking is that it would take someone getting lung cancer to stop smoking. Guess logic doesn't always seem logical.

These users have placed a higher priority on a base end bypass than media that does not tear.

Yep. I've used a lot of Motorcraft filters in the past (and some Bosch Premiums, too). I like the base end bypass in the FL-1A, though the nitrile ADBV isn't my favorite, but I can live with it, having been brought up on filter with no ADBV and the ADBV being a luxury.

I'd like to use them again, too. But, I'm not desperate to spend an extra $2+ per copy over the Wix 51515 with the silicone ADBV. If I'm in the mood for nitrile, I can get the Baldwin for cheaper still.

If one cannot compete on price, one had better compete on something else, like build quality, availability (Motorcraft is dealer only here), or features. If you can't compete on price, features, availability, or build quality, why should I bother?

I'm not impressed with the basic Fram because of its price in Canadian dollars versus build features, either. If louvers are closed, media tearing regularly, or the price is out to lunch versus competitors with features that I value more highly, I'll pass. I don't need an engine to blow up, even someone else's, to decide to purchase elsewhere.

For my F-150, I have no need for a $7 plus Motorcraft or a similarly priced Fram when I can get a Wix 51515 for $4.99. Engine failures don't even get into the decision making process.

Garak, does that WIX filter have the thread end bypass?
