Hey guys thought i would show you this. Ford has used Puro for Motorcraft filters for a long time, but until now the factory installed filter was a Wix. Now all Ford, Motorcraft, and Omnicraft filters are made by the inventors of the oil filter -Purolator! Not that important, but awhile back some loser was going around the Ford forums claiming they were made by Fram. As seen here, that wasn't true then, or now. I doubt Ford would ever put a Fram on their engines, as ive seen everything from a OCOD to a Syn Plus or whatever they call the overpriced one get sucked up and ruin the VCT of 4.6/5.4 3v engines on several occasions. In pic is Motorcraft, New FoMoCo, old FoMoCo, and Wix. Also a OCOD (with usual bad adbv) for reference for Mr Fram if he sees this haha.

While Ford's oil filters seem to hold up pretty well, I wouldn't necessarily be excited to hear that a Purolator was going to be installed on my new car. I'm not a Purolator hater, but there's been enough pictures of torn Purolators posted on here to decide that as long as there are equally priced alternatives, I will steer clear of the brand until some improvements are made.

Definitely not an improvement. Even the Motorcraft ones made by Purolator tore.

Everyone and their cousin has seen the "cardboard" end caps dissolve and ruin engines. Most of them are full of [censored].

Great. Now you get a POS Tearolator factory standard.

No reason to hate on Fram - they work just fine in their applications.

+1

Oh noes! Tear-o-lator! Orange-can-of-DEATH. I think it's funny that there's a derogatory name for every brand of filter out there. LOL indeed.

Purolator sent out a bad pallet or two, name a company that has never made a bad product. Fram makes garbage every single pallet. But thats ok, ill just start taking pics next time i find a piece of Fram in a VCT actuator. I wasnt on here last time i found one. I trust Puro as much as any other legitimate filter company, and you should too. Bashing Purolator about tears that happend during assembly to perfectly good media, here, in 2018, is like bashing brand new Chevys made in 2018 about ignition recalls from 2010. It just isnt fair or reasonable. And im a Ford guy...

I'm not going to go back through and find every recent thread regarding a torn Purolator or solid Fram because A) I don't have that much time and B) I'm not sure it would make a difference here. That said, I would encourage you to go through the available threads on here regarding these two brands if you think that the "Tearolator" name comes from "one pallet" of bad product.

Really? All those threads were from 2012, at least most. Ive read every thread, im even convinced some were torn just for the picture. Also the P1 media is superior to the Motorcraft media. Ive seen a wix fail too, also a K/N. Again, everyone makes a mistake or two. But literally over half the Fram i lay my hands on have a bad adbv and startup noise. Including all their product range. Using Fram is like smoking cigarettes. Sure a lot of people live a long time. doing it, but is it worth the risk?

You sir need to get out more often. Plenty more than a pallet or 2 were bad from Purolator. And it wasn't just Purolator branded ones, it was the Motorcraft as well.

Fram has made millions (billions maybe?) of filters and they are just fine. Have run them in my cars for years. Currently run Fram Ultras for 2x 5000 or 2x 7500 oil changes in my Ecoboosts. No issues at all.

So you are saying that Ford knew about it too? A large company like Ford isnt going to take chances. If they thought for a second that continuing with Puro would cause warranty issues they would have cancelled their contract, not started a second one and continued the first. So ya. Maybe a truck or two. But still beats Frams track record by a LONG shot.

Purolators, Motorcrafts, pretty much any cellulose filter they made has shown signs of weak media tearing at one point or another. I'm not the biggest Fram Extra or Tough Guard fan, but at least the media doesn't tear easily. Now the Ultra, other than a somewhat thin can, is a totally different story-they're capable of 20,000 miles or more in a clean engine, I've done it myself with an XG3600 in the xB in my sig, ran it just under 20K, it looked like it could have gone ANOTHER 20K. The XG8A on my XJ would probably rust out before it really needed changed.

Your thread is confusing as heck! First you say ford has switched from Purolator or Wix and then from WIX to Purolator.. which is it??? FORD has used Purolator not for MANY years to the best of my knowledge so I'm guessing they just switched to WIX?

So how do you explain that Honda uses FRAM as OEM on their filters? Honda wouldn't take chances if they though for a second using Fram would cause warranty issues....

It's a deep state conspiracy for sure.

I wondered whether they were really tearing or not given I had one on my engine, so you know what I did? I cut mine open. Imagine my surprise when it was torn. How many have you cut open?

Contrast that to the many Fram's I've used in all forms (both Fram label and OEM private label), I've cut open every single one and none were torn or deteriorated in any way.

Sorry but your comment smacks of anecdotal [censored]. Your best friend's, cousin's, uncle's, wife's, husband used a Fram once and it turned into soggy toilet paper and clogged all of the oil passages. It smacks of cardboard end cap [censored] (which has been debunked time and time again).

Yup, and I've cut open every one after learning my lesson with Purolator. Every single one looked good inside, no tears, no deterioration, nothing.

Well, say what you want, ill stick with the company that INVENTED the product. Just like i drive a Ford, a Mercedes, and use Valvoline. All were the first at something. Valvoline first distilled petroleum oil, Mercedes invented the automobile, and Ford invented mass producing it. Plus im not a liar. I liked Fram once upon a time, i thought orange was cool. But unlike Puro, ive seen Frams actually ruin the engine they were attached to, because instead of just a tear, they literally spilled their guts. Ill jist take pictures from now on...
