The fluoride in toothpaste is of little concern unless someone eats toothpaste. Calcium fluoride is the preferred form.

Yep, they are "debating" the installation of flouridation on our town water at present.

It will get up, in spite of the fact that free tablets/bottled water would make more sense that the stuff that's flushed down loos, watered into gardens, washed onto cars (although that is sort of banned at present) etc. Plus a "medical dose" is easier to control than my children who drink water almost exclusively, versus the coke and lemonade kids.

Was talking to a counciler on what sort of flouride they were suggesting (Sodium Flouride, Chloride, or fluorosilicate)...response was "fluoride is fluoride". I suggested that that if I poured sodium hydroxide on his lunch rather than his preferred sodium chloride that he might think differently.

Colgate make a flouride rinse that seems to fit the bill, as I've not needed dental remediation in a long long time.

medication, in any form should be fully informed, and at the consent of the person being medicated. Compulsory is a no-no IMHO.

And Mori, you seem to be a fully informed consumer. Kudos for keeping abreast and making your own decisions.

The following is just a general comment, not directed particularly at you:

More and more often I feel that I'm dealing with folks from the Dark Ages. With all the information available to anyone today, I really wonder how some folks succeed in almost exclusively cherry-picking half-truths and outright misinformation. Then there are those who just go with homespun theories based on nothing but opinion, hearsay and their own fears and prejudice.

When I read the link you posted, I'm NOT in the group recommended to get an annual vaccination.

You wanted us to read it, I read it, and I don't fall into that group.

I suspect many others here don't fall into that group either.

Let's read what it says:

Quote:

People who should get vaccinated each year are:

1. People at high risk for complications from the flu, including:
* Children aged 6 months until their 5th birthday,
* Pregnant women,
* People 50 years of age and older, and
* People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions;
* People who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities.

2. People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
* Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu (see above)
* Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
* Healthcare workers.

So I suspect there are many, who are not ignorant by following the advice you recommended, regarding the flu shot. We read the link and are following the recommendation.

Why do you call folks ignorant without asking if they fall into the list in your chosen source of expertise?

I understand how vaccines work (even if I don't always spell it correctly) and I understand that my body has a healthy immune system. I know that when others around me get the cold and flu, that I may have symptoms, but not as severe and certainly not as long, maybe a day or two at the most.

So I really don't think you can claim those who are not doing exactly the same thing as you are ignorant. In fact, I suspect they know far more about the state of their personal immune system than you do.

Yes Java, finally someone brings up the point of a healthy immune system. The human body is strong enough to protect itself against the flu if its working and being fed the way it was designed to be.

My whole family has the flu right now ... from the experience, I can see why folks would elect to have the shot! I haven't been too sick: sneezing, runny nose and scratchy dry cough but my wife was very sick for 2 days. I've never seen her so sick ... severe aches and pains and looking fit to perish. That's a badazz virus.
