No, I know about warranty. I probably won't be shy at all about 30 weight after warranty is out. It's the 40 weights that are a buggar. I'm not worried about fuel economy loss, either. I just want to make sure I don't harm anything mechanical. I laughed off other people's concerns about this for years on here. But nw with a couple of new 5W20 cars again, I am a tad more hesitant.

I did a little searching and found other UK Aus forum posts where people were running 10W40 so I think you'll be fine.
All the oil actuated gizmos work when the oil is cold(70F) right? So even 5w20 is much thicker at 70F that 10W40 at operating temps.
Also conventional 5W20 at -25F is many times thicker than 10W40 at your coldest starting temps. I haven't heard of any startup oil issues up here in the great white north so I think you are fine. The record coldest temp in shreveport since 2005 is 20F... Don't run 20W50 that day and you'll be fine.

In LA, once the warranties are up, the 40-weights won't be a problem. Even the 5W-50, for one run (only one jug) isn't going to hurt anything.

We've heard on here about people in Texas, Cali, etc...who take their cars like these to a quick-lube and get 20W-50 put in 'because its hot in Texas, man', and those cars probably run for years like that!

Have NO idea what to do with that now. I had no prob buying different weights when my cars consisted of the CR-V and a SAAB 9-5. The 9-5 did fine on thicker synths, and you can pour anything fluid into the V. I'm sure such may be the case with my newer Hondas, but I am not ready to find out.

This is a cautionary tale for stashers. I laughed it off when people warned me of the same thing. I just assumed I'd replace my 9-5 with another when the time came. But...I decided I'd go low maintenance/high mpg this time for my car.

Place it for sale in the local tv/radio web sites, it will sell with no question FAST.

I've seen people buy oil on sale then resell it there. The ads don't stay up for long before SOLD is all over it.

After spending the day tooling around in my fiancee's 09 Fit Sport 5AT, I am even more impressed with the car than previously. It rides well, has a very nice OEM radio, and the view out the front is phenomenal. Makes you think you're in a much bigger vehicle. The engine has plenty of go-power for having 500 miles on the odo and being linked though a slushbox. And it can whip around pretty as you please. Plus the interior was put together by somebody concerned how you would use it, not how it looks.

Fuel economy is on target for the low 30's combined.

In short, this car will be a pleasure to live with.

Yeah, I am still pretty pleased. Gradually, over the course of a week, I've realized just how tossable this car is. I haven't found a corner yet that hasn't been dang enjoyable. Ditto on the view/driving position. Really impressive.

The Wall Street Journal column "Eyes On The Road", in this week's article, reports that Honda dealers currently have a 147-day supply of Fits, compared to 17 days one year ago. So dealers should be offering good deals.

The same article also reported that Chevy dealers have a 560-day supply of Aveos.

Hah, they'll hold onto that 147 day supply until gas tickles $3...then watch it vanish. I know my dealer had a lot full. Everyone does. Mine had been sitting on the lot since December. No one dealing, though....

But really, we're not talking about saving big bucks off the price of a Merc or something....It's a $17k car...a nicely-put-together one, but still.

The base Fit is just an around-town car. It lacks cruise, the good stereo, and the paddle shifters that allow more control over the auto transmission. Plus handling isn't as crisp because of the taller/skinnier tires.

Optioning out a base Fit to include cruise is almost as much as the MT Fit Sport. I'd just get the Sport, which is a much nicer car all around.

We didn't even look at base+option Fits, only at the Sports.

not quite 2 months ago when we went to local HONDA dealer to test drive an '09 and to possibly purchase they had 20 or more FITS and said they would sell them in the coming months due to summer driving and the higher gas prices it brings . We did get a quote on trade and price of the '09 and were not pleased with their offer . Said we were going out of town to look at an '09 4 door YARIS liftback the coming weekend ( SATURDAY ) and to call us with a better offer before then . Never heard back from them until the following week after we had picked up the new '09 YARIS on MONDAY . Got the call on TUESDAY . What also steered us to the YARIS was to find out that you had to pay an additional $600 > $700 to get the floor mats , cargo mat , mudguards , and cargo cover which are installed by HONDA dealer . We asked them to throw those in as part of deal and said not doable . The YARIS came with almost all of those , except for mudguards which I removed from the '08 YARIS liftback and installed on the '09 right at TOYOTA dealer lot before bringing it on home . Would rather have a FIT , but dealer gave us a fit with the attitude . :- (

we've been to other HONDA dealers and were ignored at times . So we left after waiting around in their lot for about 15 minutes or so while they're going about their business like we didn't even exist . I sometimes wonder if it may be due to the way you dress . HONDA is the car that sells itself . Not to us anyways . Maybe in the next life . . :- )

We're not going back to the dealer we purchased the car from if we can avoid it. the only good thing there was the price on the car. And that was because it was technically a "used" car with 300 miles on the odometer. So it wasn't even their doing on the price.

The other Honda dealer we visited was very nice, even after we said we were still researching.

Floor mats for the front I had laying around from an old car, and we'll figure out something for the rear, which won't see much use anyhow.
