first dose of TCW3 today

if your going to add a fuel lube, wouldnt it be better to add a 2 cycle oil that is more of a racing type lube that is designed to burn more thorough?

I was under the assumption the marine 2 cycle isnt designed to completely burn, rather is designed to lube and kinda slobber out of the exhaust into the lake, since it is a biodegradable type lube. it seems to me a marine tc-w3 would end up baking in the manifolds more than a 2 cycle that is designed to be able to burn off.

am i correct on this? im not saying im correct the above is just what i have heard.

In the LS1 "been testing" thread, Sarge said after 75k of TC-W3 use he pulled the head of his Silverado and upon inspection he found the plugs were pristine and the pistons were shiny like new.

Great feedback. Plan on doing the same here. Nice to receive objective data showing that preventative maintenance does indeed payoff in the long-run.

Question:

Any idea as to what dose of TCW-3 was used over the 75K?

I'm struggling to understand the measurements here. It sounds like you have a mileage monitor (correct?) and you had some number of miles that had been traveled to estimate a mileage without TCW-3 (do you know how many miles were used to calculate the average mileage at this point?). From what you have said in another thread, it seems as though you switched to using TCW-3 and did not reset the mileage monitor (is that correct?). You have since racked up over 2000 miles on the TCW-3 mix and the average mileage is up (is that correct?).

nope, not correct. I have at least 2200 miles since resetting the monitor which I did when we got the car. I did not touch the monitor since I started adding the oil to the gas. I have done 7 doses of 5 gallons + 1oz gas and once I put in 10gal with 2oz. which was tonite actually. In that time, 7 refuels of 5 gallons per, the monitor has gone up to 21.6MPG and has leveled there for the last 2 refuels.

I apologize for being so dense. I am not getting this. It now sounds like you bought a car and reset the mileage monitor. You seem to have driven around 1400 miles without TCW-3 and averaged 21 mpg. You then switched to TCW-3 and did not reset the mileage monitor. You have now driven 750 to 800 miles with TCW-3 and your running average from the time of purchase is now up to 21.5 mpg. Am I getting closer? If that is correct, then your mileage now about 22.5 mpg based your monitor.

no. I drove 2200+ miles before starting the TCW3 routine. Now maybe another 700 since starting. Monitor shows 21.6.

dwcopple: Would you consider stopping use for a while to see if your mileage drops. Is there a chance that you cleaned the injectors or valves and that you don't need continued use of TCW-3? Is there a chance that you are observing the effect of seasonal reformulation of fuel? Since air temperature alone can be a significant factor on drag, could you be seeing the effect of a seasonal change in temperature? I hope that TCW-3 works for you, but until you control your experiment for correlated factors (season, temp, etc.), I cannot conclude that TCW-3 must be cause of your observations. Maybe it works, maybe it's something else.

This treatment has an annual expense of about $10. It is maintenance. If it increases fuel economy, great.

I too use TCW-3 for "maintenance" purposes; any increase in MPG is icing on the cake. Nonmechanical family members also believe the engine idles smoother.

that's what I said, and no, I won't stop now, i bought the oil to use it. 2 qts cost me just over $1 and will last me darn near a whole year. (thanks to Lots of Loot promotion!)

I just started using TCW3 and haven't noticed a jump in MPG (though I am on my third tank) but I do feel the smoothness and it is probably the cheapest UCL.

showing 22.0 MPG now and hopefully still climbing! Calculating off fill amounts and trip meter, I am getting 24-25 mpg per tank now!!!

I have been adding TC-W3 to my gas since October of last year. Today, I went through DEQ for the emissions test and below are the results. Very impressive. Two years ago it barely passed HC, this time it is like a brand new car.

15ppm and 0% are very good numbers indeed

Where are the NOX numbers on that sheet? I can't see any so I guess they aren't tested? My assumptions must be going wrong somewhere, because, if NOX isn't tested then why all the hoo-haa about VW diesels?

1oz per 5galllons. Iirc

I did not get any bump over the 9 months or so, that I used TCW3 in either my Tahoe or Camry.

However, given the GM Fuel Pump issues, I'm wondering if a little bit of lubrication is a good thing.

Do you know what is potentially being lubricated?
