Sometimes they double up. I recall a series of Liberian registry oil tankers that crashed in rapid succession in the 70's ..I thought it was 6 (all named Amago something or other).

aside from media focus ("Hey, we can tag this along with the other one! Start pulling up all the small plane crashes too!!") ..randoms .........sooner or later....group.

This is why I keep my feet firmly on the ground. I know the statistics of air crashes versus car crashes... but at least I'm in control of the vehicle.

The statistic is flawed. Try plotting it per event. There will never be enough take offs and landings to match one day in the risks that you take in ground transportation. It's like comparing someone who cross a street once (carrying 400 lives in their pocket) vs. millions of people crossing streets daily. Which group is going to rack up more fatalities?
