hi all! and happy 4th too all:)
have a 95 neon ATX SOHC. calipers are 17 years old, and this year, doing my brakes, the driver side seized up. 8 inch clamp broke, and using a 1/2 inch piece of wood to help push it in. [censored] thing broke the c clamp!
so! am replacing the brake rubber lines too. i have read some bad stuff about cardone stuff. my atuozone has em for $37.99 each, $25 core. Advance atuo has the same price, Fenco.. NAPA has eclipse, remanf. for $97 each. mopar online websites have em for about the same..$97 each. kinda pricey!!
its a daily driver, parked outside all seasons. Have looked at rockauto.com too..see raybestos, and other brands. hoping to keep it more local so dont have to pay the shipping for the core charges* would fencos(advacne auto) be way better than the cardone calipers? better, and cheaper ones, froom rockauto?

if you like raybestos hardware, check carquest. Their blue line brake products are more often than not made by raybestos. We havent been terribly impressed by Cardone quality lately at our shop.

There is nothing wrong with cardone remfd calipers and fenco remfd calipers are ok also. I have used both brands and i have never had any problems. I feel cardone would be the best but fenco is just as good in my book.

There isn't much to a brake caliper. A good cleaning and replace the rubber bits and bleeder. I'd imagine ANY rebuilt unit is miles better than a seized OEM one. Buy a Cardone online at Advance Auto with a coupon code and pick it up in the store.

I probably wouldn't buy a Cardone steering rack or drive axle, but a brake caliper? Sure.

I think Fenco economy calipers are better than Cardone. I have seen an ocassional problem with Cardone calipers, eg, leaking after a few months, and less problems with Fenco.

How about kelsey hayes? was just looking at rockauto.com. $17 per one(need 2) and no core charge..think thier just as good as the better known name brands?

The kelsey hayes i was looknig at, had no pads/not loaded. i already have 2 new rotors, and new set of brake pads ready too go. i notcied thiers a section thier, for loaded with pads, and something about a bracket? is that necessary?

Hi Ziggy,

I work at CARDONE.
My opinion is obviously biased, but I encourage you to give our calipers a try, I'm sure you'll be happy with them.
Our calipers are all fitted with brand new rubber components and bleeder valves and are 100% computer tested for quality and reliability.
You can learn more here:

and here

Hope this helps!
(PS- I replied to you on the neons.org forum as well.)

Pretty good advice, and there is a warranty, anyway.
I'd go with the Cardones - give them a good look over, and check for good lubrication before installing them.

Yes just saw on neons lippy thanks:) I am prob gunna check the cardones out. However, the kesley hayes caught my attention too. on rockauto.com $17 each, no core charge. they look descent, not professional, but decscent. Of course, one thing i have learned is you get what you pay for. my local atuozone has cardone calipers for $37.99 each. in my mind the $37.99 is gunna outperform the $17 ones. reading some mechanics opinions on car forums online, honda, hyundia, ford..about cardones axles n calipers they werent really fans of them. but those are opinions...
kesley hayes vs. cradone calipers all...of course ide like OEM but at $97 a pair jeesh!

You normally do not need a new bracket, but getting the old caliper out of the bracket can be a PIA. The caliper pins are normally on the bracket. Make sure the pins are in pristine condition. If it takes more than wiping them with a rag to clean them up, replace them.

Ah, ok thanks! Yeah, the calipers look ok..very good actually. i was a little confused thining all new calipers came with a new bracket..guess not!
any info on on here, on the kelsey hayes vs cardone calipers? like which would be best? or too raybestos or centric or wagner or something? Read iffy stuff about cardones..so just looking to get something cheap, yet as or near reliable as OEM.

Kelsey Hayes was original equipment on my older Mopar. So Kelsey Hayes caliper from Rock Auto for a cheap price might mean a rebuild on a KH core. So quality depends on the quality of the rebuild. Have used Fenco reman calipers when Autozone used to sell them. Often got KH core. Dust boot failed several times but the piston seal never had a problem.
