This forum has been very helpful for numerous reasons - I wanted to return the favor and provide feedback that may be helpful to some.
Love Amoil's SSO so much I canceled my extended warranty through Warranty Direct. Warranty Direct told me that I had to follow EXACTLY what my owner’s manual said to use and it had to be API certified, exact weight, etc.
I checked with Amsoil and they provided an excellent answer. They stated that third-party companies that sell extended warranties are essentially an agreement between you and the company and you have to follow things EXACTLY as they say or they will find any reason to deny the claim. The Federal Law which protects you with the vehicle manufacturer's warranty does not apply for third-party type extended warranties. Since Warranty Direct would essentially not allow me to use the Amsoil SSO I cancelled my policy with them.
Prior to using Amsoil SSO I used Mobil 1. I don't think you can wrong with either one but my van seems to love this motor oil for lack of any technical explanation. The engine runs quieter and smoother at initial start-up especially in colder weather. My wife even commented on how the engine seemed quieter at idle and she did not even know I changed the brand of motor oil. I have also noticed an improvement in gas mileage by approx. 3%.
Both Amsoil and Mobil 1 have been great to my Odyssey but I think the Amsoil is top-of-the-line. The price is not so bad if you become one of their preferred customers. I don't sell the stuff...I simply love how my van runs with it. Hope this helps in some way for those not looking for a technical explanation on the differences between the two brands.
