Feedback on 3800 series III?

Well since they went back to the Aluminum intake manifold all is good again...I would use M1 in it and have her change the oil and filter when the OLM goes off...If she does not use synthetic I would not go by the OLM as it will not keep the engine clean. When cared for these engine can easily go 300,000 miles. Change the ATF at least ever 30,000-50,000 miles and the filter.

I don't know if I can convince her to use synthetic, but I'll work on it. How many miles do you think she could get out of a synthetic oil change?

I'm actually not too worried about the engine lasting - it's the body that I worry about, being in the rust belt and all.

Good point on the trans; this car has 84k on it, and we have no idea if the ATF was ever changed. Assuming it hasn't ever been changed, do you think it's too late to change it?

How are people liking the series III 3800s so far?

I love my 3800 Series II; the best engine I've ever had the pleasure of operating.

I run Maxlife 10W-30 changed every 4 months with an AC Delco PF52 filter.

I change the Dexcool every 6 months mixed 50/50 with distilled water.

+1 on Series II/III Engines. I have a 95 with 161k, my Dad has a 2000 with 102k.
Pennzoil 10w40 in the 2000 Buick.
Chevron/Exxon mix in the 95 Bonneville.
Either Purolator/STP/Quaker State filters.
4000 mile OCIs

Just keep an eye on the coolant. If oure losing it, its leaking internally, which can hydrolock the engine if leaking bad.

It's a bit early to tell; I've only had my '03 Buick Park Avenue for three months. But it has performed perfectly in city and highway service, hot and cool weather both. When I had the coolant changed early this month, my regular mechanic reported no leaks, and the coolant level has not dropped even over my 1000-mile road trip to Little Rock. No oil used either (presently on Chevron Supreme 5w30 w/ 12 oz. of Auto-Rx).

I call gas mileage a wonder, now: About 21-22 on regular gas in 75% city driving, and I saw 31.9 on the open road at 70 mph. Incredible for a 3800-lb. car.

My plans are to upgrade the brakes for more stopping power, have the trans fluid and filter changed, and just drive it.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of OAT coolants like dex-cool. I was thinking about draining the coolant and replacing it with standard silicate-additive (green) coolant.
