Who are some allegedly famous relatives you have?
Here's one of mine, he and my maternal Grandpa shared a common ancestor, confirmed by DNA, who served in the Revolutionary War.

Funny thing is, I grew up, and in fact, lived most of my life so far within a couple of miles of this fellow. He was a small man, while all my Grandpa and all his brothers were all over 6 and a half feet tall.

There are others, but he'll do for starters.

This guy is my Mom's cousin.

James Gammon.

He was the manager ("Lou") of the Cleveland Indians in the "Major League" movies, and was a main character in "Nash Bridges" (Don Johnson's Dad).

Interesting topic

Thomas Edison

I think of invention ideas every once in awhile. I sometimes see stuff on the market that I thought would be a good idea after the fact. But I don't think of any that compare to his better inventions. That's for sure. Maybe inherited, or just coincidence.
Lots of people think of ideas all the time so it's nothing special in my case.

He was a genius though, IMO.

Pablo - Maybe it's about time to get a family class action suit against the Shakespeare descendants concerning his plagiarisms and borrowisms.

Is this to be, or not to be? That is the question!

My wife's great great grand father is supposedly the imperial doctor for the king and queen mother, and my father in law couldn't stop bragging about it.

One of my cousin is the vice secretary general of the 7th largest city in China, not sure if it is considered "famous".

I'm famous in my company because every previous company I've worked for went bankrupt when I leave, and when I tell them I'm leaving, everyone got nervous.

One branch of my mom's side of the family tree is the Clemens from Missouri. I'm cousin to Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens).

Both Grandma and grandpa both said that we are direct related to him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tecumseh_Sherman

I've done a little research and from what I have found is that the original family came from Europe and started with Roger Sherman. After the civil war, the family split up based on religion, to the south went the baptist and north stayed the presbyterians.

He is one of my cousin:

And when I will tell you that I am 6'1" with brown hair, you can see that we are not that close related... but I watched all his races on TV with enthusiasm when he was racing (he won three silver medals, all in Giant Slalom).

In fact, all these people are my cousins:

My family name starts way back in 1319, in Einsiedeln in Switzerland (Bern County), so we are everywhere now.

My Dad is doing the genealogy thing, and the closest famous relative that we have in one of those auto-searches through genealogy data base is also Mark Twain, somethingth cousin.

Pretty sure I am related to both the Clampetts and the Darlings. It's the only way to explain some of my family members.

I am about 10 generations removed from Benjamin Church, the guy who hunted down King Philip to end King Philip's War in 1690s MA and RI.
