Exxon shutdown Beaumont refinery.

I had to laugh at one case of gouging from a convenience store with the buyer waving the receipt. $65 for 2 cases of beer.
A did you really need it? Was it essential to staying alive? IMO if its a luxury item charge what the market will bear. Look at what is being done to smokes.
If the Red Cross started to get ready for the storm 2 weeks ahead why not the rest? Winters in my area get pretty ugly and having more than a couple days food is just good practice.

Motiva is this countries(Saudi owned)largest gas producer and shut down Wednesday. That will get the gas price up even if you have 500k cars not running.

Could you imagine the overtime the Techs at these petro/chem plants who can't get home are making? WhoooEEEEE. Been down that road before.

Did you see their cars floating in the parking lot or I think it was a lot?

How much of the increase is from the normal holiday price spike? Not uncommon to see a nickel or more before major holidays. I tanked up early last week

Hard to say. The fourth of July was the first price decrease on a holiday I ever saw.

An oil industry spokeswoman said there is plenty of supply in the supply line, and the refineries should be operating in two weeks.

In my view, any high fuel prices will be the result of price gouging.

Yep. That's why the oil industry has been down for the last 3 years.

Don't give me the "Whoa is me" garbage...the oil industry did it to themselves by producing a glut of crude...ultimately, they control prices by controlling supply, and they take advantage of consumers whenever there's a natural disaster...time for them to raise prices and pad their profits...

But the boats and big trucks rescuing people use a lot of fuel.

This area will not return to 'normal' for years, just like New Orleans is not 'normal' 10+ years later.

Low fuel prices are over, folks, and fuel shortages will start soon enough.

No-one knows how bad refinery damage is, and I'll bet its way worse than they are speculating.

Any refinery shortages caused by shutdowns can easily be made up by other refineries...no need for any shortages, and price hikes are nothing more than profit padding...

We are out of fuel 70 miles from Houston and lots of it went to military and caravans of trucks with supplies, generators, etc - and folks displaced from population centers - and of course reallocation of fuel to rescue efforts ...
There is far more going on than Houston - that's easy reporting since all the news agencies are from there ...
Crews/folks now have to dodge the rivers coming out of banks - and that puts them driving way out of the way - and consuming fuel from the small towns ...

I dunno about that, in the short term atleast. There's not a good reason for the petroleum industry to build excess capacity in refining or distribution as normally they can predict demand and margins are relatively slim.
Raising prices is the only way a free market can cope with a sudden shortage of supply as it drops demand to people who really need it. So say $5/gallon would make people think if they really need to use gas or not, or how they can save gas by car pooling for example. Also $5/gallon makes it profitable for more production to be brought online or diverted to the area if people are willing to pay that much and use their normal amount.

Let's hope, for the sake of the people that buy it, Mobil 1 continues to meet specs

I saw a guy with a one ton flat bed and a 16' trailer loaded with 5 gallon gas cans -
All cans were brand new - no clue where you could buy that many red cans ...

Yes. Saw some pics of what looked like a trashed control room as well. No idea if they're actually from this facility though. Like pretty much any hydro or petro chem plant though, some areas have to stay staffed 24/7/365. Things have to stay on nitrogen purge when not in service or they will burn (pyrophoric).

Unless the guy is doing a fuel run for folks doing boat rescues, there's no need for that much hoarding... Hopefully the gas station limits him to something reasonable.

I hope he was helping - no idea. There have been a number of companies from grocery chains with refers to oilfield services with big generators coming through with trucks ... some escorted by state troopers ...
I can't even get to my boat ...

The amount of gas purchased could be limited in the effected areas until the emergency is over to curb hoarding...raising prices is nothing more than a money grab...

I think you are correct that he works on behalf of a professional organization.

M1 is produced in Paulsboro, NJ. However the chemicals may be made in Texas???

The videos I watched on Mobil's website where they talked about the Paulsboro, NJ facility, it is their research and development facility? Where they are developing and testing the new oil blends. Do they make the finished lubricants there as well? I have older Mobil 1 oil bottles, and on the back they say Fairfax, Virginia. On the new Mobil 1 bottles it says, Spring, Texas.

I thought maybe the Mobil 1 oil is being blended in Spring, Texas.
