I am currently running PP in my 2006 TL...Car has 30K miles and is still under warranty...5YR/50K miles is the warranty

My current OCI is about 6-7K miles based on the oil life indicator...

I i switch to Ultra and run 10K OCI will the dealers know if there is a warranty issue??? Will this void my warranty???

Thanks

Most OLM dont have a memory and even if it does people forget to reset them all the time.

Most manufacturers dont ask for proof of oil changes when you have an internal issue unless their is something that raises a red flag like a sludged up engine. In that case you need to be able to produce receipts for oil and filters. If you tend to buy in bulk its nice to have a log to back it up as well.

Unless there's a sensor on the drain plug I don't know how they would know what your OCI is.

That being said, keep receipts, buy a little extra oil/filters if you want to extend, so you always have a lot of receipts

No it won't void your entire warranty.

If something does go wrong with the engine, you could be asked for receipts. It does happen (not as much as claimed though) - but legally the manufacturer would need to prove the extended drain actually was the cause of the malfunction.

(no this isn't a MM issue)

That's exactly what I did, and I happen to have two vehicles that use the same filter and oil. So that makes it possible to do a virtual oil change, if the need to do so presents itself.

O and be realistic with your receipts. We had a customer shoot a rod through the block of a mustang and he had no receipts for any oil changes. His parents happen to own a shop in town and magically he showed up with ROs for oil changes. They were at 3000, 6000, 9000, 12000 miles exactly with sequential RO numbers and were all written by him that morning. Needless to say Ford told him to pound sand. Plus we had affidavits from people stating the motor blew from the turbo over-boosting that he took off before he steam cleaned the engine bay before bringing it in.

I let the OLM go to zero and it ends up being 6-7K...All my driving is city ...short stop and go trips....

Warranty for powertrain is actually 6yrs/70K miles...

I have all the oil chnages documented in all my cars....For the Tl I use the maintenance book that came with the car....

Is everyone OK with running Ultra for 10K miles...I am not interested in doing UOAs...

If the OLM is for dino and I get 6-7K miles with dino then Ultra should be good for 10K in my humble opinion..
Thoughts???

Just buy oil and a filter every time you are supposed to change the oil according to the OLM but just don't and run to 10K and then change. This way you have receipts showing you changed the oil on time.

Just keep the oil and filters for future use after the warranty is up.

No one is going to know and you should be just fine if you have normal driving patterns.

Ultra it is....Two jugs for $40 dollars...I have a new credit card that comes with a $40 dollar credit....So it will be 2 Ultra jugs for a small tax payment!!!

this is the best answer ... why buy trouble?

I had a catastrophic failure in my Audi 2.8 at 87k miles. I sent in proof of Mobil 1 5W30 changes every 5k miles and there was no question about coverage even if the company (WarrantyDirect, IMO avoid them, also dba Interstate Network Dealer Services or some such) failed to honor the contract fully and left me holding the bag for major $$$ ... they still paid out way more than my contract cost.

Best is to do the actual work, of course, on time (5k changes required under that contract so that's what I did)... my payback was the cost of many hundreds of oil changes.

Stevie- That is what I call a virtual oil change, I've done them from time to time. Just use common sense that's all.

The Tl just got a chnage with PP a few thousand miles ago...I now have 2 jugs of 5W-20 PU which will go for 20K miles ...I am all set for 2 1/2 years....

I hope I don't miss any PU deals during that time....

What happens if you do your own oil & filter changes and you have an engine problem. The dealer will want proof or at least receipts for oil & filters. The idea to extend the OCI during the warranty period seems like foolishness to save a few dollars vs the cost of loosing the warranty. JMO. Ed
