That's not really an option. The person who owns this truck lacks the facilities to change their own oil/filter, so it must be done by a shop. Thus, the labor costs alone will be quite expensive w/ a 5K OCI.

BTW, I calculated that it'd save the person 50% by switching to the AME 15w40 at 1-yr drains.

It will last a long time.

The Bypass, sure you can use one, but may be overkill, but not a bad way to go as long as it's installed properly.

The rx:

what? it's a diesel.
They are always nasty inside

but they don't get like gasoline engines
unless something wierd happened.

Do a flush or add some highly detergent adds in there, and or just use a very good oil that keeps things clean as possible, and I think you'll be fine.

I would take a sample 5-7K miles until theres a trend and then maybe push it out to a higher milage.

the bypass greatest advantage is the soot

the length of life it gives could vary

but I wouldn't doubt that on a good oil that you would be looking at very high milages.

Have you seen the reports of the issues with the dual remote filter set-up? I advice you to search the oil filter and bypass filter sections to find out.

Hammer

Especially when I know someone with over 180,000 on a 2000 Ford PSD that hasn't been changed.

Whatever

"5W-40 will give slightly better mileage and equal or better engine protection especially when very hot or very cold. Engine noise varies. Different brand oils seem to damp noise differently.
