I really wouldn't consider this a huge ordeal. They substituted a comparable oil that met the manufacturer's specification of your vehicle. This is one of those where yes, you are technically correct but the shop really didn't do anything wrong.

It's not like they didn't change the filter or you brought your own mobil 1 and caught them pouring in AAP oil.

Had something similar happen to me at a Pennzoil shop. I had gone there on and off for several years and I started to think something wasn't right. I started to believe that they were not changing the oil filter due to its appearance when I would look at it after having the oil changed. So the next time I needed it changed I took a sharpie marker and put a mark on top of the filter where it would not be noticeable to a guy standing under it when it's up on a lift. Sure enough when I got home I checked the filter and the mark was still there. Looked like they took a rag with some degreaser and just wiped it off real good. That was the last time I went there and have been changing my own oil ever since ( about 7 years now ).

There is being technically right but at what expense? Not like the AAP oil was any worse than the Kendall.

Would not have bunched my shorts if it happened to me.

My opinion...if I asked for kendall, or what ever oil, and they ran out and put in what ever they wanted with out first consulting the coustomer...now I would have a big problem with that! Now I understand if they ran out of oil. These things happen. But ask the coustomer what other brand they would prefer. They could have used something compairable in price and quality...not knockin aap branded oil, just not in my top 10 oil brand pics! They would have given me my money back or drained and refilled with my oil of choice. Plain and simple.

He came in for a Name Brand Synthetic Blend and got a Store Brand Conventional...That is not an equivalent substitution.

If they had substituted Valvoline Durablend or Pennzoil Gold it would have been.

I'm pretty sure it's made by Shell. I wouldn't be concerned but you were certainly lied to!

I hate to be lied to also!

Does not look like Sopus to me with sodium, I'm thinking Castrol since AAP seems to have a pretty tight relationship with Castrol. Could also be Valvoline since they use sodium but I'm betting Castrol makes it.

Never the less if I go in for Kendall syn blend by golly that's what I expect to get!

They mailed me a coupon for a free oil change. Only problem is we dont have a expert tire in my area. Just stopped in when I was working out of town.
