I have been working out of town for the last few weeks so I stopped at Expert Tire for a Kendall synthetic blend oil change. I had a coupon right off the Expert Tire websight for Kendall oil. After about 30 min. I walked back to see them putting in the last qrt of Advance Auto conventional oil. When I asked about it they said they just ran out. Funny my truck was there for 45 min. and they had this oil on hand but they just ran out. Everything in the store on all the paperwork said they used Kendall motor oil.

Another post of a company misleading the customer. Is there any wonder why people don't trust dealers or repair shops? I guess that's why I service my own vehicles.
After talking to the manager, I probably would have left there without paying for it.

Bummer. Think them boys owe you a free oil change or at least free Kendall syn blend next time. Of course, I be afraid they might mess it up on purpose next time.

If it says Kendall that's what you should get. Did you talk to the manager? Or higher.

Yes I talked to the manager but u know I was from out of town and would never be back so they did not care. Will go get some oil when I get home and change it out.

AAP oil will be fine for a ~5k oci, I wouldn't swap it out. You might write a letter and/or an email or three expressing your dissatisfaction to Expert Tire. And if they have corporate office, them too.

Interesting thing is, the bottled Advanced Auto Parts oil is likely to be a lot more expensive than the bulk Kendall GT-1.

So, they probably were not lying that they had run out of Kendall.

Interesting take. May well be true, but Id want a swap with something arguably better than the kendall, not store brand which to me would be a step down.

I hope the OP paid with credit card. Id call the CC company and get them to reverse the charge. If the Expert Tire company has anyone higher up than the manager that was talked to, Id write a letter in complaint - ever going there again or not.

Another reason why I stopped going to quick change spots quite some time ago. I had that happen to me (paid for mobil 1 syn, they used PYB right in front of me! And then to add to insult, didnt change the filter since "change filters every OTHER oil change").

Do your own oil changes now if you can, will save you quite a few hassles.

Since you spoke to the manager and had no joy, just argue it through your credit card company.

If all I want is my money back, I don't waste time writing letters to those who have done me wrong. I just focus on getting my money back and move on, lesson learnt.

This is exactly what I was about to say. Hopefully you paid with a credit card, if so, just dispute the charge.

robert

I don't think the dispute will go through. The invoice likely said that the oil change service included up to 5 qt of new oil, and Kendall just happened to be the brand they advertise. So, they are likely under no obligation to promise a particular brand.

If you are an important customer for your credit card, then small amounts like an oil change don't even get investigated, they just take your word for it as they don't want the administrative hassle.

The OP had a coupon for Kendall and his paperwork said Kendall per his first post.

BTW - that is not bait and switch....... b&s is luring in the customer with a low price bait and switching and getting paid for a higher priced item. What they did is dishonesty and fraud.

Last time I went to a quickie lube was 30 years ago 3000 miles from home.

I have yet to see any oil change coupon promise a particular brand.

It is almost always worded "up to 5 quarts of motor oil" followed by a brand logo somewhere on the coupon.

By interpretation, there's no absolute guarantee that the shop is obligated to use that brand.

On the other hand, if the coupon said synthetic and the shop used dino, then that is a different story.

In the ideal world, maybe, but companies are becoming tighter and tighter these days about following the rules.

I've had no problems with the recent disputes I put through. Indeed, since the rules changed on how much the banks can charge for / on debit cards transactions, credit card customers have become even more important. That's why there are so many sign up bonuses.
