Hey guys, so my vehicle needed the exhaust replaced as it was rusted pretty through. I ordered a new exhaust and figured why not order a new gasket as well from the center pipe to the exhaust. Should be easy, 2 bolts... but the gasket the dealer gave me was like this..

new gasket

the old gasket seems like a wire mesh like scotchbrite material and looks more like this...

currently on there

I called 2/3 dealerships and I looked online and it calls out this part. Will this fit? The old gasket is pretty much melted on and messed up. I don't want to scrape and grind the old gasket off if the new one doesn't fit...

Thanks

I had to replace that on our highlander, from the exhaust manifold/cat to the exhaust pipe up front by the radiator. Same engine, one year off of yours. I was able to get the old one off (which was like your original, I would describe as steel wool with solder melted into it) with a flathead screwdriver. My new one was like my old one. The original was in good enough shape after I pried it off that I could have brought it to a dealer and showed it to them.

There was some difficulty in finding the correct part on RockAuto but I was able to. I assume that the new one you have is for further down the exhaust pipe, I doubt it will work.

I had to replace mine as it had worn and was making a metal on metal clank which was worth 10 bucks for me to fix. If I were you I would return that inocorrect part and just use the original.

EDIT: mine was AP Exhaust 9216

Go here, click Info and I think that will help.

Could be an updated part number? Is it for the same location? I have not seen a TC up in the air, but you usually see that type of wire mesh gasket on the end of a manicat before it goes into a down pipe or downstream cat.

all set, went to autozone and they had the mesh, I took off the old one (took 90 minutes or so to chisel that sucker off). Put the new one back on.

some times it helps to tighten the bolts on the manifold only 70-80 % of full tightening, for 5-6 heat cycles, then finish tightening. it worked on my small block chryslers.
