Excel sheet i would love to share

I have a rough draft of a .xls done that will let you blend two oils and give the outcome viscosities. It also will calculate the Viscosity Index of an oil, given standard data sheet viscosities. The best part is it will enable you to enter two temps of an oil and it will automatically graph the temp vs viscosity chart from -20C up to 100C. It will let you do up too 3 different oils. So if you are blending oils, you can put oil 1, oil 2 and your new oil3. I put this together so i don't have to go to three different websites to get some numbers. Also it enables me to save data or graphs easily. I have checked my numbers against Widman viscosity grapher and they are nuts on. Unfortunately i dont know how to share it so if you would like a copy, i will be more than happy to email it to you. Also i have a page called math so all the equations are there for the math geeks. I would love some feedback, maybe i can take all the feedback and make it really good and one of the mods will post it somehow for all to have and use. Thanks guys
 
so if i have 3.5 quarts of a synthetic blend (70% conventional, 30% synthetic) and 1 quart of 100% synthetic mixed together, will this chart tell me the new percentage of conventional to synthetic?

The Table automatically lists deg C and deg F. It plots data in deg F.

Stockman, no thats not what it would do. If you put in the the following data Oil 1 40C = xx cSt and 100C = xxcSt and the same for oil two . then you blend them, 1 qt oil 1 and 3 qts oil 2. It will spit out new oil 3 100C and 40C viscosity. Then you can plot it below.

I would have thought more people would be interested in this considering i see a post every day about blending your own oil or what oil is better for cold weather. Oh well.
 
It's Sunday. I'm seeing some impatience emerging here in my continued naive observations of social groups here on the board. There was some noob wondering, "with the alleged knowledge base in the filter section", why no one posted anything in a day's time in decoding a Purolator lot number. I (in my irritating manner- but truly joking) told him to take a number for better service since all paid tech personnel were occupied with like paying customers. He got angry even though I followed it with a legit post

yea, i guess, It took so darn long to get all the equations to work and too get everything to work out, i guess i just got a little over excited. Seriously, who the heck gets excited about viscosity calculators. Maybe i need another hobby. I really wish i could just attach it to the thread so people could just check it out. Then again they could just click on three websites and get the same info :) I used to share stuff with filepanda but they closed the doors i guess.
 
I'm glad you did this. Since Shell's on line blending visc calculator has been dysfunctional for a couple of years, the mixologists have had nothing to work with. There you were limited to two sets of inputs, so you may have had to carry some results to see what your blend produced. Not that you can't manage without one, but it's a heck of a lot easier with a plug and play calculator. It's also open to more people who couldn't manage otherwise.
 
Was that utility a new addition to the rohmax calculators? It's the first time I've seen it, but admittedly I don't go there often and may have just assumed that nothing was new ..or just missed it all together.

Yeah, we got a good blow back a bit. Western/Central PA tends to have a different overall snow fall pattern to ours in SE. Most of our stuff comes from collision of southern moisture and our statoinary cold air.
 
Ahh, okay. Im not sure about that rohmax calculator, i just ran upon it trying to find something to correlate my numbers too. It would be nice if widman would incorporate that into there graphing site.
 
not sure audi, many people are mixing there own stuff. Personally i dont mix and match much, i just choose something that is what i want and run it. there is nothing i have that wont run off of anything from 5w20 to 10w30. I have stiffened some dino 10w30 with some 15w40 before.
 
added a simple deg C to F or F to C calculator and also updated the labels in the graph so they update with the labels as they are typed in.
 
SAE 40 & 50 weights are vastly different chemically than 20 and 30s, that's the main reason I don't blend.

Before I bought 5w-40 synths, I would mix 10w-40s down with 5w30s for winter, but that was along time ago. All my mixing now is 5w30 with 10w30 and occasionally one quart of 20 or 30 added to the fill of the other. I just don't need to do any calculations for that, it's mostly based on gut and the need to use up my stash.
 
True, you definitely don't need it, but it is interesting to blend two oils get new numbers and graph the new oil against the original two. Maybe more for fun than an actual need. It also has a chart similar to widman so you can plot flow over temp. Whats very scary is plotting gear oils. go to widman and plot a 75w90 vs an 85w140 dino.
