Dropped by autozone for something and noticed a clearance rack as soon as walk in and had pennzoil euro on sale for 2 dallors off. Not much of a sale but guy said really don't need to use this oil unless you have an application for it as he said it could cause harm to seals. I have not heard this but maybe I missed something. I'm hoping he is wrong because I been using some of these euro oils because of clearance prices last couple of years. So is euro oils bad if not specified for your vehicle?

Probably low-SAPS oil

I bought all their Pentosin 5w30 euro oil for $2.00 a qt.

low-SAPS means you can't do extended OCI's.

I sold my (4) 5qt Castrol 0w-40 to a guy @ work for $40 (what I paid for it); his mechanic doesn't want to use it since changing oil brands causes sludge.

No I'm not. I didn't say I agree with him just making sure there is no truth to this. I actually disagreed with him on the spot but I left it at that and got what I needed and left. I didn't know this guy but I can speak for couple guys I know that work at autozone that are very knowledgeable and have lots of experience working in the auto field. But I'm sure they don't sit around discussing motor oil or I would ask them.

In my 15 CRV I have never used the same oil once. That's probably why theres so much sludge everywhere! (Sarcasm)

Quite possibly the OLDEST of the "old wive's tales" surrounding oil brands and usage.

It just W O N ' T D I E already!

The guy at autozone actually "warned" me, as well.

I told him that $2 a quart of full-synthetic is a good deal any day of the week, and I'm absolutely 100% certain it won't harm my 140,000 mile F150.

Ask him what's euro about euro seal material that allows it to resist euro oil.

You don't need a computer to talk to him. [/quote]After a while if you follow the forum a bit the advice you can tell the people that know vs those than think they know.

Exactly, and from memory he said Euro oils had a more stringent oil-elastomer compatibility requirement than API oil, so if anything these Euro oils should be better.

Nothing to worry about.

Here in Germany they rate insurance , tires everything by the top speed the car can go. Why, the autobahn speeds are unlimited. So considering how euro cars are sailing along at top end or near it sometimes for hours their oil has to be at least as good as ours, probably better. No worries.

Ha, I had an Autozone Employee first tell me that Valvoline VR1 would be bad for my motorcycle's transmission. After I explained to him that it has a dry clutch, he tells me that it will damage my engine's seals. Cause it's something some mechanic told him years ago.

Recently I encountered an AZ cashier who suggested that Euro Castrol 0w-40 might be too thin...

Misinformation from 30 years ago abounds at these stores.

Yes, I was told how RP 0w-40 would be too thin for my Audi in the summer, but an ILSAC 5w30 would be just fine.
