I have an F-150 that uses a Fram 8A oil filter. Does anyone know if a Fram 43 and Fram 16 could be used in place of the 8A. I realize that the barrel lengths are shorter. Thank you.

Learned something new today! Thank you. So a PH3600 and PH3614 have enough capacity for that engine size? It is a 5.8L.

How about the Ultra XG8A? Or better yet, a Wix 51515

I wouldn't do it. The gasket, threads, and bypass pressure match but there's so little media in a 3614 it would be in bypass a lot.

I have run a PF43 on my 300-6. Even better it was 20 years old.

ive seen a 3614 on a 440 in a motorhome!!! Not me lol.

Dodge and ford both used the 8.then dodge added ps to the big blocks and the belt was in the way so they made the 43. Im running a 43 on my jeep now

I got a Supertech 43 on clearance from WM a decade ago, it was identical in every visible way to their 16. No wonder they consolidated part numbers.

My dakota 3.9s had a filter sticking off the lower side of the engine and a PH8A would bang the frame so they took 16's.

My saturns took 3614s and 3600s fit but rubbed a splash shield. They cheapened the 3600s over time, making them shorter, and by now they fit great. In fact they're easier to grab and remove, used, than the shortie.

Use the 8a or any equivalent PN that is available at your local stores.

Any smaller filter could reduce flow or filtration capacity, reduce volume which could shorten the change intrrval ...

Why? Ph8a sized filters are some of the best and easily available.

imo thats true to a point. But you would have to go a long time to plug any of these up.way more than a normal oci.

Your average filter is still clean even @7000+ miles

Wix 51515
Napa 1515
Motorcraft FL-1A
Purolator L30001

There are others.

Ditto for the 318 in the Dakota. Could barely get that shortened filter on & off. It was a royal PITA.
