I haven't found much useful info on this but Im gonna start running 40w for consumption issues. It is not api cert but is also not a euro oil. Any feedback on this oil? I have been looking into 40w oils lately. 30w over 20w makes only a slight difference on consumption, ie 2500 before it goes to the add mark versus 2700 with 30w, although I have been doing alot of mixing lately..I always run 5w or 0w and have never run 10w xxx and will go back to 5w or 0w in late fall

It's a good oil and it's API SN and Euro A3/B4 rated, that's very good.

Here is the link to the HM version PDF (Edge 10W40 HM)

The 10W40 oils are usually thicker than the 0W40 oils and this extra viscosity should also help with your consumption issues. It always has for me. The 0W40's carry more Euro car OEM specs, but I like you choice. I'm running Penrite 10W40 right now, it's also SN & A3/B4. The 10W- are good down to 0F or -20C for cold starts.

we get some minus 0 here but not for very long, and I assume the 10w thickens up when it gets close to that, I will gp back to the 5w when december rolls around

Some guy around here bought 30+ quarts at $1 each for his Jeep..

-15*F is usually as cold as it gets here. Never an issue.

There's also M1 10w30 HM and 10w40 HM. Arguably cheaper and easier to get. A3/B3 too. You could also get a mineral 15w40?

My dad's 2002 Silverado 8.1 burns this at a rate of 1 qt/1k mi. When he could get it he ran Amsoil 10W30 and didn't burn any.

YMMV

Just asked him. He doesn't remember. Sorry.

We used Mobil 1 15W50 in those 8.1s when we ran them in the Allison lab with the 1000 series transmission.
Never had an oil related problem, all the failures were broken valve springs or broken con rods.
With our duty cycle we were getting Nascar-like fuel economy, 4 mpg or so.
