The fluid was changed at 20k and may have been a good idea as they felt the Si is minor but a alert 1. Cu is the clutch disk but we have no way of knowing if the count is high or not, I think not. I was going to skip to 60k for the next change but may just go with 40k to get it cleaned up. All others are 0 and the Moly is probably from the parts not the fluid.

Fe Iron ------------------- 26
Al Aluminum -----------------1
Cu Copper ------------------ 8
Si Silicone --------------- 34
Na Sodium ------------------ 3
Mo Molybdenum -------------- 2
Mn Manganese --------------- 5
B Boron ------------------- 73
Ca Calcium ---------------- 40
P Phosphorus ------------- 226
Zn Zinc ------------------- 22
Water Volume ------------ 0.00
Viscosity 100C ---------- 6.80
Ferro Small --------------- 19 - ppm < 5 microns
Ferro Large --------------- 34 - ppm > 5 microns
TAN ---------------------- 0.92

It doesn't look bad. This fluid is pumped through a filter isn't it?
I see no reason why it couldn't go 40k miles.
Usually, I'd recommend more frequent changes.
Wear is minimal, so I'll make an assumption that the 40k interval recommended by VW is relatively conservative.

As long as there are no 'control', pump, or mechatronic issues, I expect the hard parts to last a long time.

Did you cut open the filter for inspection?

It is filtered - looks more like a water filter than a oil filter. I expect that all will be normal at 40k. I am sure the Si is just initial assembly dirt and we will not see that again. The Cu is just the initial break in if the clutch or its possible the cooler. I would be worried about the copper only if the Lead and Tin had corresponded.

Cartridge filter, did you stretch it out to see if there were any wear particles in the pleats?

No I boxed it - I stopped cutting filters open 20 years ago due to the fact I rarely found anything. There was very fine glitter in the drain pan, a little. Its a different type of filter it resembles a white roll, more like a water filter. I trust the UOA and the more I think about feel the Si is not dirt but gasket material from the metronic pan.

Not bad, hopefully this type of transmission proves itself to be reliable so we can see it in more VWs (and other cars). I think this might be the only automatic I would ever purchase in a car.
