DSG and Haldex fluid change time

As stated, I have a lift. It takes 40 seconds to raise and 30 seconds to lower. I could use the Vag on it but since I drive to heat and monitor through bluetooth app and verify with infrared gun the added time for the VagCom is not needed. Contrary to what you believe filling through the filter boss is much quicker than through the bottom fill tube method.Pulling the battery and tray is maybe 5 minutes off and 5 minutes back on. Pays to have chests full of hand/power/specialty tools when working on vehicles. Adding the 6 liters through the bottom as specified ends up wasting more than a liter of DSG fluid, every time. Adding 4.75 liters through the top ends up wasting less than 1/2 liter. I suppose I really don't even need to go back later and verify fill. It is always between 1/4-1/2 liter overfilled. Running a half liter over won't hurt anything and that is time not spent otherwise. I am going to stop doing the verification step from now on after thinking about it a little. Actually the heating up to 90c isn't even called for using the top fill measure method as long as it was correct to start with. Just do the change, check for leaks, start it up and paddle through the gears and drive it. Thanks for your post! I am now going to save even more time and still accomplish the task accurately without wasteful time killers. You can do what you want if it makes you happy.

Everyone that does it this way tells me the fill is a very slow, some even heat the fluid up - how long does this take you to fill it? Is it slow to take it going in from the top? It took about 15 min to fill ~6L with the no cares given about the bit of extra over-fill. If I had a lift this whole thing start to finish would be pretty quick. I figured if VW said do it this way, why not/there's a reason - it's not about "what makes me happy", it's about the method the OEM said to use and the way the techs I've spoken with do it. It reminds me of using "the 2x4 method" for doing front struts on these cars vs. just taking the outer (or inner) axle nut(s) out. It's too bad they never made those MK7 TDIs with awd...what a great combo that would have been for all that low-end torque. Maybe next time I'll fill it top side and try it to see if it really saves any time or not; I'm not opposed to it...I understand the logic, I've just always heard it takes longer due to the fill time.

Takes maybe 30 seconds a liter to top fill. I do actually warm the oil up to maybe 80-100F prior to using it. I know a couple VW techs but have never asked them how they do it at the dealership and whether they see a downside from the top fill method I have now embraced. I actually was talking to one of them today on a different matter not car related. I will ask her next time we talk.

Carry On Brother!

For all you wagon haters....this is my commuter. For the sharp sighted you will note it is just a Hatchback.
