This message isn't about a specific motor oil and I hope a moderator does not move it. What it is about is trying to salvage a wealth of insight and experience for the remainder of us who learn from this forum. Doug Hillary's massive experience with fleet trucks, innumerable OCIs, preventative maintenence programs and candid "no **" attitude was an asset and it is a monumental shame that he does not contribute to this forum any longer. I always found his posts well written, to the point, factual and usually backed up by hard data. Personally, it was Dougs comments on HDEO engine oil that promted me to successfully use it in gas motors. I would like to thank him for that.

Doug is a great guy and very smart guy. He has posted some great comments and started excellent threads.

His reasons for leaving are posted in the 0W-40 thread. I think (from reading his posts for 3 years) Doug is very sensitive and proud individual. No one person is the G0D of knowledge and logic here. Please read that thread. Doug had some great points. He was logically questioned and challenged. He partially answered the questions and he chose to leave.

I hope he comes back. I think he has taken leave before and returned. His wisdom will be missed in the meantime.

This place just got a whole lot more boring. I hope Doug does what Doug feels is the right thing to do, even if it's not what we want him to do.

I certainly see the loss of Doug on this forum as a bit saddening. I learned to pay close attention to the posts he made here. As in many fields of inquiry there are many here who are "wanna be s". There is nothing wrong with that but with Doug I know he is coming from a massive collection of experience and knowledge that was especially valuable.

To Doug: I don't pay any attention to those who want to put you down. I'm not a lubrication expert but I know the difference when one is writing for us. I have learned a lot on this board. However, I learned early on that if a post is counter to someone's pet oil some will become abusive and I saw happening toward you, even though your posts were not brand specific. I hope to see you back.

To Doug.....

Have BOTH Doug and TooSlick departed at the same time? Ah the internet, a double edged sword.....

Antagonists that are now joined together in their absence at BITOG ?

How odd.....

TS has been gone longer, and still no eulogy for him.

Really I didn't think anything got TOO personal in the TS vs Dougster discussions. BiTOG is so tame, relatively speaking.

Come on guys, bring your marbles back

Pabs, "so tame", by design. When this place becomes like most others on the web, yours truly will blast too.

To the tune of Aussie Come On.

"Come On Dougie Come On Come on. Come On Dougie Come On Come. Come On Dougie Come On Come On. Come On Dougie Come On Come."

Too Slick I would print your theme song if I knew it.

Would really like too see both of you back, some great baseline rallies of information.

To Doug and Ted:

One oil to rule them all
One oil to find them
One oil to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.

Guys, we will never tire of your incessant bickering and mutual sniping! Don't take all that away from us! Crumpets and tea are only half as good without your rants!

I am sorry to find out that both of them have left.

Both have unknowingly been very helpful in pushing me up the learning curve here.

I encourage them to come back!!!

Their insights will definitely be missed.

I can say Doug had patience...with ME of all people. As far as his 0w-40 thread, he did start it and one would think he'd finish it. I did not think there was anything specific that was offensive or harshly contradictory said to him on that thread, it's actually puzzling to me what happened there. I dunno if he liked the proposal that oem-approved lubes are not the end-all...I tend to agree with that, but that's what and why we are all here anyway. I did not take the notion of him leaving seriously, maybe I was wrong there, but I hope not.

Doug was very opionated. Sometimes he had some good points and sometimes his posts where totally out of line.

You can say the exact same thing about Ted.

Actually, Doug simply wanted answers to a few questions that related to claims Ted repeatedly made. Ted chose to never substantiate his claims with anything resembling actual proof, yet kept making the same claims until he went to Mordor (or wherever he spends his vacations). What's worse/funnier/more entertaining here? Ted's smugness and his persistent questionable claims regarding M1 OW-40, or Doug's use of sarcasm and his nagging persistance, all of which amounted to parody, and as such wasn't offensive (at least to me).

Well, he never said he'd leave, so why should there be any need to eulogize him? Who knows he's gone for good? And no, I don't care what rumors and prattle the BITOG freelance intel service (M.W.) already has dug up or will unearth regarding this.

I think as he ages in life he will learn to use discrection.

don't really have an opinion about either, but it happens on almost any forum. Some of my main haunts have this happen with regularity: some get frustrated, some just get tired, some just move on to other, newer interests.

Some come back, some don't.

Some are missed, some aren't.

Life goes on.
