Done Selling On Ebay

What's really funny is I do like to buy on eBay. I buy brand new Nike DriFit polos, NWT, for anywhere from $8 to $17 shipped. My wife thinks it's funny because they have companies' logos on them. I don't care they are all nice shirts. Just 2 days ago a colleague said I didn't know you went to Wisconsin, like Ron. I said oh I didn't, I just collect shirts (it had a Badger with a W embroidered on it, very nice).

Anyway, they are not good for sporting gear, namely ice hockey. Very expensive. I discovered sidelineswap.com. Got my son $300 skates used 1/2 season, for $28. And there were 5 to choose from. Shipped was $45. Every time I tell someone about it, they've never heard of it.

I'm not much of an eBay seller but they have all my personal info. I intend on listing all the Buick Enclave parts I have at some point to see if anyone will buy it, it's taking up space in the basement. I almost want to buy a cheap Enclave but that would be foolish...they need so much major work but look nice...

Mind you, I'm in the USA, so maybe that matters?

This year I ordered 2-3 times (a book and a car air filter) items that were stated they ship from US states. In my case one of the items was sipping from Cali, the other from Florida. I had issues with both items because the sellers of those 2 items didn't send me shipping info/tracking number and both items were running late like a week.
Then I went to their personalized eBay pages and one of the sellers was in China, and the other one in Israel. So the items most likely were shipped internationally but on the listing it was saying that the item ships from within the States. And that's why they didn't send me tracking info. Both items arrived but with significant delay, about a week or two. I reported both sellers.

So before your order something is a good idea to click on the sellers page to see where actually he is located, because sometimes sellers are located overseas (regardless that the listing says they ship within the States) and those items won't have a tracking info and most likely will be late.

That may be related to the Trump's International tariffs - people are located overseas, but put on the listing that the item is here, in the States. Then they don't pay additinally and you don't pay extra. I don't think it's right and no good integrity either. They basically lie where the item ships from.

Did you post on your listing a website you are not associated with it? I think that tells you why your listing was taken down.
Isn't it safer just to copy/paste the information about the item, instead of giving a 3rd party website for additional info that you are not associated with?
True enough, it was Marantz and selling a Marantz amp. I mean I get that part. I had already typed in all the specifications anyway but wanted to show the details were authentic.

The part that made me angry was how long they took after I revised the listing.

You mistake what was hassling me. You are talking about after the sale shipping. I was writing about making a listing.

Fees used to be 5-6% now over 16% fee.

Craig's list, Nextdoor, Facebook are free options, but local and scum are everywhere.

Sorry, man, I'm not understanding the problem.

I just went to ebay, and made a fake ad for sale. At the bottom, the seller inputs the box size, and weight, and then you select a carrier. The rest is done by eBay. People living close get a lower rate than those across the country. The last few listings I've done, using UPS as the carrier, the ebay charged rate was right on the money. In the past, ebay over charged the buyers, and the seller could make money on shipping.

Nope mine I must select a premade shipping policy or create a new shipping policy or edit an existing shipping policy. And when I do that it won’t save it. So frustrating.

I think it’s a decision I made 4 years ago or so. If I could turn that option off I probably would get a screen like that. But moot point. I’m done with it

I have a bunch of Simrad marine navigation/radar stuff my brother in law gave me 5 years ago. Took me about 80 hours to get everything researched/up on the site with shipping figured out. Fees have gone up a lot over the years.

They have gotten very strict on user information/bank account info etc. That being said I think they might be the best for what I'm selling? But have only sold 2 items. But I got about $2000 for it. I will see how it goes. They have gone to bat for me when ordering from sellers that misrepresent things.

I was given a Ebay survey a few days back. I mentioned high fees, and shipping should be easier/more streamlined for each item. They make you look up shipping costs from scratch for each item. I mentioned they should have a shipping look up connected to the item you are building the listing on.

Edit:
I started selling some items on Ebay about 23 years ago. I don't think the shipping is any easier than it was back then. But it should be.

Got burned on Ebay two years ago. Will never use them again.

The last couple of years I exclusively shop at eBay and my Amazon account is on pause. The only time I got scammed was fake Denso spark plugs that came from China. That was in 2018 and I scammed myself big time because expected to pay $10 for 4 OEM iridium spark plugs, when in reality just a single iridium plug costs $10.

I've only sold a few items on eBay, and would rate the experience as "so-so" at best. Too many fees, too easy for your listing to get buried under "sponsored listings" and the like.

Now... as a buyer? Completely different story. I buy most things from Bezos purely out of convenience, but as a car guy there's things that just couldn't be had without eBay. Case in point: after repairing the A/C in my '79 DeVille, I noticed the left outermost vent had no airflow even though it was open. As it happens, the center-to-left under-dash duct was missing completely. These cars are long gone from any pick-n-pulls up here in the Midwest, so my only option was to search eBay. I spent a few minutes reviewing the factory service manual to get an idea of what the duct should look like and went to town.... bingo! I had a factory part shipped to my door for $45. Without eBay, that wouldn't be possible.

I have countless other stories I could share about eBay saving me a ton of cash. As a buyer, if you use it properly, it's an awesome tool. As a seller.... not so much. Especially not small players.

I don't understand your point

His point is that he buys used part/item and need to pay tax on it, when the tax was paid once the item was brand new. 10-15 years ago items sold on eBay and Amazon were not taxable. The same as used items at yard sales. But even brand new items were not taxable.
Now buyer pays:
- item price used/new
- state tax
- shipping

Additionally 10-15% of the item's price the seller pays fees to eBay or Amazon.

If you buy a used car you'll have to pay sales tax. New or used, doesn't usually matter with sales tax.
You were always supposed to pay sales tax on everything on Ebay - it's only recently most states figured out how to get it directly from Ebay.
