Hey all,

Well I have started my first run of Auto-Rx in my Astro work van with 151,000 miles. After just 400 miles of the treatment the oil on the dipstick looks like some real strong and I mean strong tea. Does this sound right as to the looks of the oil after a short time or is this not looking right? The oil level has also gone down by about 1/3 quart. I don't know what to look for and if the oil level should be dropping this quick. Would appreciate any personnal use knowledge about what to look for and any info from past experiences.

Thanks
Butch L.

Sorry no personal experience with Auto-Rx here.

But if it is dark I would think that means it's working.

I assume by your suprise at the 1/3 quart in 400 miles that you know it never used oil before?

No it had been using about a hair more than 1/2 quart in 3000 miles. So when I checked it this morning and it was already down 1/3 quart in 400 miles it was a little surprising at the drop in such a short amount of miles. It might be a normal progression with the use of Auto-Rx but someone with personnal knowledge of the use would know more than I. I am only on my first 1500 mile use and then I go to the the rinse phase before I go to the second treatment. If anyone would know what I should be watching for and what is the norm during treatment I would appreciate some insight.

Thanks
Butch L.

It's just scrubbing the inside of your motor. Some people get the same effect using Mobil 1 for the first time.

Didn't really know what to expect pertaining to color. I figured that if the product did its job and the inside of the motor may not have been took of with scheduled oil changes and the such (Being I bought the van with over 140,000 on it) that the color might be what I would call dirty looking. But after 400 miles for it to look like it did sort of concerned me as to if there would be anything else I would need to watch for. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Normal first time Auto-Rx user shock, Butch. Relax. Enhance your calm. Trust the instructions. If you're not going to be able to contain yourself and need something to do to feel in control of the situation, change the filter out and pour the contents back into the engine. That will make you feel better.

Intermediate consumption is a normal side effect ..or rather "not uncommon". Wait until the rinse cycle. You may hear a few ticks and clicks that you didn't before. All typical side effects that pass.

Thanks Gary Allan. Didn't know what to expect but if the color is any indication than this stuff must be stripping and cleaning the inside real well. Like I said earlier, I didn't know if the motor had been taken care of before I had gotten it but a 03 with over 140,000 on it I figure it had to be run alot on the open road rather in town so probably had many extended oci on it with no telling what kind of oil in it so it probably added to the amount of stuff in the motor. I've got another bottle so after the first treatment I will run a second after the rinse phase. Than it should be as clean as a person could expect. What kind of oil should a person run after all the treatments? I have used Havoline 5w30 but didn't know if a syn or a blend would be better for something with that many miles. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Butch L.

I think a nice blend such as Maxlife 10W-40 would be healthy medicine for that van.
