Does everyone use new bolts for caliper bracket?

I've only replaced if the head of the bolt was in so - so condition.....Like if you used an old 12 point socket on them and messed them up a bit. Don't know much about the Ford situation. ( Haven't had one since I was a teenager in the early 80's ). Normally, I re-use them with a 6 point socket, no problems. Here in the RUST BELT, you're always getting new caliper brackets anyway, and they come with new pins, bolts, boots. So, never really had the chance to ruin a pin bolt. Got drawers full of them. Anybody need some ????? I'm out of room :(
 
My understanding is that VW has a lot of one-time use bolts too. Surely not all of them are stretch bolts. Am guessing that the engineers wanted locktite on the bolts, and found that it was best to have the bolt manufacturer coat the bolt (faster for production), but then that means the bolt has to be replaced after each use. Seems excessive to me but there must have been a reason in the first place.

That is exactly what I think Ford does. There's really no other reason for it on a lot of the OTU bolts.

I get throwing away TTY ones, but Ford puts OTU on dang near everything.
 
If the call to replace is just because the dry film threadlocker....No. I'm capable of applying threadlocker all by myself!!!

The manufactures/dealers don't like buying the whole town threadlocker if you know what I mean.
Agree. If a boot is tty, or has some angle requirement, I’ll replace it.

If it’s because of the application of loctite, no… I’ll prime and then apply the correct thread locker.

Torque Angle doesn't always denote that the fastener is TTY, I doubt many domestic vehicles use TTY caliper bracket bolts as I've never felt the fastener yield/stretch.
 
Never ever. I bet I've had cars that I've done brakes on 10x. And never has one not been just as tight when I remove it later.
 
I know it's a Toyota thing on fixed calipers, but those bolts are pretty expensive. They could double a DIY job almost. In speaking to a Japanese indie, they told me not necessary. So I didn't. And putting loctite was not recommended although you can see OE has something applied.

This is 2016, a Toyota brake job could be well over $600+ per axle with the sensors, it would be shocking to see what that same job is in 2025
