Does dexos1 have a hths spec?

I was just wondering if the dexos1 specification included minimum and maximum hths values? Most dexos1 oils I've seen have hths values in the range of about 2.9 to 3.2, but I wasn't sure if this was part of the spec or not.

Does anyone here know this?

For Dexos 1 (gasoline spec), the HTHS requirement is:

XW-20 - min. 2,6 cP
XW-30 - min. 2,9 cP

For Dexos 2 (diesel spec), the HTHS requirement is:

min. 3,5 cP for all viscosity grades.

AFAIK dexos 1 is a fuel economy spec specifically for gasoline GM vehicles and it's based on Acea A5/B5. Dexos 2 can be used where Dexos 1 is specd but not the other way around. Hths should be 3.4cP max for Dexos 1

So there definitely is a minimum spec of 2.9 for 5W30 dexos1, and there may also be an upper limit of around 3.4 (due to this being a fuel economy spec).

Does anyone know anything definite about the upper limit?

Dexos 2 oils that I have seen all appear to be 5w30 full synthetic oil and all seem to be C3 or mid saps.

All C3 oils that I have looked at also appear to be to A3/B4 and have a HTHS of >3.5mPAS.

From what I have read Dexos 1 is for petrol engines, Dexos 2 is for diesel and European petrols engines.

Most Dexos 2 are as I mentioned 5w30 but there are exception such as Mobil 1 ESP 0w40.

Yes, both Dexos are mid-SAPS ...Dexos 1 is based on ACEA C2 and Dexos 2 on C3. Corresponding HTHS limits apply.

I just had an oil change on my chevy CRUZE Diesel at the chevy dealer. After I got home, I looked at my recpt and it read DEXOS1. I called the dealer and they had no idea what I was talking about and sounded annoyed. They said it says Dexos1 on the barrel of oil they have and its the same as DEXOS2 and not to worry. Their book says when dexos2 is not available, Dexos1 can be substituted. Thats what he said. Is that correct?

They should have the correct oil at the dealer. This engine does not use dexos 1, they need to change it now. If he gets PO'd show him the spec.
dexos was implemented specifically to put an end to this sort of confusion and he should know better. dexos 1 for gas and dexos 2 for diesel. They screwed up make them fix it.

dexos 1 is not for diesels, it's based on SN/GF-5. dexos 2 is more universal, can be used in either.

And yet dealers continue to wonder why people bad-mouth them...

What does the owners manual for the diesel Cruze say? I'll bet it says dexos2, NOT dexos1.

No, it's not correct. Take the car back to the dealer and have them put in the correct oil.

Dealers aren't going to stock bulk Dexos2 oil for the very few Cruze diesels they sell. But they should stock it in jugs or quarts. Dealer parts managers hate stocking slow moving items, they are a PITA.

I have to ask my friend who is a GM dealer that question. I believe its in their contract that they have to stock certain things for current vehicles like oil and other fluids.

Page 275 of the owners manual states the alternative oil if used must meet C3 spec.
ESP 5w30 meets that spec but i don't believe any dexos 1 oils do.
