On full flow systems that don't use a fluid control (AKA Ranco) valve flow can cause erosion in the core especially aluminum cores.
Some cars use a restriction in the system to help prevent this.
Regular maintenance and using quality fluids goes a long way in preventing core failure. This is one Of the reasons I use JD Coolguard or Coolguard II, it has the least amount of metal loss and can be used in any system that I am aware of.

Check out the loss of metals due to erosion especially the aluminum.
