I have been doing it for a while now ..( for personal use only of coarse) ..
I you do this ..what programs do you use??
so far I find DVD shrink / coupled with Nero burning ROM to be a good combo/ decrypter
I knopw there are some movies it can't decrypt..then you need Fab dvd decrypter or IMG burn ..or DVD decrypter

Same configuration here. DVD Shrink (or DVDFab and then DVDShrink for the PIA discs) and burn with Nero.

You might have to search for it, but Ripit4me (which uses DVD Shrink) is my ripper of choice. Then burn with Imgburn.

For backing up dual layer to single layer, DVD Rebuilder does better than shrink (but is much slower).

Take a look at AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. Simple, easy programs to use.
21 day free trial on both programs.

I have over 4,000 titles on dvd-r... Most done with those two programs.

I was using DVD X-Copy but they got sued out of existence by the motion picture industry. Last time I formatted my HDD I couldn't get the product reactivated so it's now a drink coaster & I'm out 50 bucks.

Using Nero for the burn can cause read errors on DVD Shrink with certain discs. DVD Shrink will be more reliable with DVD Decrypter as the burn program.

I've been using the combo of DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for a few years now. Normally, the only discs that won't work are scratched discs that DVD Decrypter and DVD FabDecrypter don't work with either. I think I've had one that I could do with DVD Decrypter that wouldn't work with Shrink, and one that would work with only DVD FabDecrypter.

Use dvd shrink to pull them off as a *.iso file and use dvd decrypter to burn them.

I have not found anything that dvd shrink wont pull off,,even sony's supposed protection wont stop dvd shrink.

I've had several give Data Cyclic Errors due to the copy protection. I've noticed it on mostly brand-new Sony movies, and some Disney movies, but other companies are fine.

Seems like I'm using the right ripper (DVD shrink). I've been burning with ImgBurn and no problems... is DVD decrypter that much better?

(freeware of course)

I rip with DVD Decrypter to my ext HD, then burn with Nero Recode to fit on 4.7G DVD-R. My success rate is about 90%. Most issues are with crummy disks. Decrypter has removed the protection from every movie I have ripped.

I back them up in DIVX or XVID onto a file server (over 2 Tb) for easy access from the HTPC. No thumbing through stacks of DVD's. Just type in the name of the movie in the search, and it is instantly on TV.
