For couple days channel 9 has not been in HD.
It's the only HD channel not in HD.
Over the air it's fine.
They had me reset the satellite and still not in HD.
They ran a check from their end and decided or guessed it was a receiver problem.
So they are sending me a new receiver.
My Daughter who is 10 miles away has channel 9 in HD on her direct TV.
So we will see.

Is channel 9 a local affiliate?

What makes you say it's not in HD? Is the aspect ratio 4:3 like an old tube TV?

Have you tried calling the station to see if you were not alone? They can sometimes be responsive.

If you can get the signal over-the-air, BTW, it'll be less compressed than directv and look better, though it's inconvenient.

Some DTV channels are available in BOTH SD and HD. You have to tune to the correct one. The 'guide' can also be set to show only HD channels when both are available.

That would not be a receiver problem. I'd say it's an LNB problem or dish needs tuned. If the signal drops below a threshold on the transponder that channel is on it will not pick up the signal.

We have that problem with our CW channel. On any of our receivers and even at a different location about 70 miles away. It states HD but the picture stinks.

I'm not on Direct-TV, I'm on Shaw Direct Satellite and I know sometimes when they are having problems with their HD feed they will sometimes sub in the non-HD channel into it instead so that those folks that know what channel to turn to for their favourite show etc. will still be able to find it, just not in HD as a temporary measure for convenience while they fix the problem with the feed. Then usually a couple days later they will change it back I guess when the HD feed has been restored.

I'd call D-TV and ask them what's going on. They will be aware of it if this is the case as my provider was when I asked them.

Seems pretty straightforward fix if they are sending you a new box. Given your daughter has Channel 9 HD indicates it is a problem with your box or dish.

Being in Denver you have pretty good line of sight to the birds in the sky and are not on the edge of the cone beam along with being very close to one of the DTV uplink facilities in Englewood.

Let us know how the new box turns out...

Yes channel 9 is a local.
It has always been in HD.
This morning it has reverted back to HD.
So the problem may not have been the receiver.
But I'm getting an upgraded receiver at no cost.
I just hope its not the wireless Genie.
My Daughter has it and says its troublesome.

I upgraded to that wireless thing... ended up ditching DTV altogether after 4 months. The sound would make a popping noise every so often, the bedroom one didn't like to connect every time automatically.

they did not send me the Genie, good.
it looks like the same box but is is supposed to be an upgraded model.
I hope it is because the old box is sooooo slow at all the commands.
