I would like to switch from dino to synthetic in my 6.2 ltr Merc IO,(GM engine). Is there any reason I should not go from 40wt dino to 15/50 M1 EP.My engine stands idle for 7 months then spends 5 months running idle to 4000 rpms at no particlar schedule.Am I right to think longterm storage protection would improve with synthetic? Do synthetics lube better in high rpm use.Does anyone offer 30 or 40 wt synthetics.I know this is not the boat section but the collective wisdom is much deeper here. Thanks

The best thing that can be done for a stored engine is to add one of these www.autoenginelube.com. Would add to any engine for that matter. Only way I know of to truly lube an engine before the crank shaft even turns.

Use a straight 40 heavy duty or a 15w/40 oil change often and all things will be good ,although imo you can't go wrong with any of the premium syn oil M1 included. A preluber would be good .I made one using a power steering pump from a forklift .
