Dilemma - Sale on PP & M1

I purchase both oils regularly when they are on sale. Never had a problem. Use either one with confidence.

A couple of weeks ago I would have said pick either one as they are both pretty close, but after I found out that PP 5w30 does not have the ACEA A5/B5 spec listed on it, and M1 5w30 does, it makes me wonder about Pennzoil's commitment to offering up what's best for it's customers. I found this out when my father asked me if Platinum had that spec (which is required for his new Volvo) and I found out it did not. Now I do realize the oil PROBABLY meets the spec, but the fact that Pennzoil refuses to test the oil towards it makes me think a little bit less of them. I like the fact that Mobil 1 seems very committed to making sure it's oil is submitted for all of the testing it needs in order to pass the warranty requirements of many vehicles. That gives me much more confidence in an oil!

True, thats a good point and I feel the same way about it, I think Mobil 1 is a bit more expensive, but I would believe its a higher quality product, it would give me peace of mind.

How do you determine that PP will run quieter/smoother than M1?

By listening to the engine when its running.

Hahaha!

I wonder if this is just a product differentiation effort to help sell Pennzoil Ultra.

Probably, but that doesn't do Canadian customers like Patman's father or myself any good. Walmart and Canadian Tire refuse to carry Pennzoil Ultra. NAPA wants an obscene amount of money for it. SOPUS only allows certain distributors to carry it. Castrol and Mobil aren't shy about getting ACEA specifications and clogging our shelves. Why is SOPUS shy about it?

Speaking of which, if a Canadian customer needs to know which distributors are allowed to carry non-Shell-branded oils (i.e. QS and Pennzoil), email Shell, and they'll get back to you in a hurry.

And so does every other engine.
