What are the differences between Mobil 5000, Exxon Superflo, and Super Tech (east coast version)? I see some similarities (similar packaging, same company - ExxonMobil), but I'm curious how they are different. While I know there are some pubic perception differences, I am seeking tangible, statistical, and documented differences between these oils. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

look in the VOA section please

not going to do your reading for you

The VOA section has some interesting numbers that perhaps some can relate. Its whats missing in the data (witness GC 0w-30) that can only be pried out of knowledgeable contributors.

f its not allowed to gain insight from experts here, then this Forum becomes somewhat limited in use.

Just my $.02

Bzzzzt, if you think that a VOA gives enough information to judge the relative quality levels of various motor oils then I think you are kidding yourself.

It's very likely that they're all the exact same oil in different packaging which is why I buy the SuperTech (SM) in the 5 quart jugs for only $4.68!

Alas, our Exxon/Mobil sponsors and EM knowlegeable people, don't seem to frequent the board like the Pennzoil and Amsoil guys.

Haven't seen GeorgeCLS in awhile. Where are you guys?

I don't believ Mobil makes the Supertech product, it is made by Warren. Even the old Driveclean is different then the new 5000.

From what Carpy posted, Mobil Clean(bulk only) is the same as Superflo and Clean 5000 is a step above.

Did Mobil lose the contract for the east coast when it went to SM? Do we even know whether the midwest SM is Warren? Remember WPP picked up the contract when it went to SL, the SJ was the QS buyout in Shreveport.

and yes I already know my spelling sucks..or my typing! but you can't go back and fix your mistakes and I often forget to proof read !

Exxon/Mobil now supplies SuperTech here in Rhode Island since the late fall--great oil at a great price. (was previously WPP like most other areas of the country)

This thread has piqued my interest. My Dad was in the oil business and I remember him telling me the local refinery up the road supplied many different brand gas stations. I think we might all agree this is how it's done throughout the U.S. The differences between the brands being the the additives.

I was talking today with a fellow who worked in brand X lubrication oil manufacturing facility. He stated many brands of oil were bottled there. I certainly don't know about the science of blending a dino oil nor all the additives, but I have a suspicion Walmart, before it entered the express lube business and decided to market their own oil brand, hired some rather knowledgeable people regarding dino oil. Therefore, I think there is a strong possibility Supertech may very well be a good bang for the buck.

Would I use it in my "newer" vehicles? - Nope
