I've been a lurker for over a year. Decided it's time to jump in the discussions. This forum has been a great source of information (and entertainment). Of course, now my wife thinks I'm crazy b/c I talk about motor oil differences/advantages, etc.

I'm curious about the difference in the Valvoline synthetics. What are the major differences between SynPower and MaxLife?
Thanks

I should clarify. I know that MaxLife is the high mileage version. Besides seal conditioners (not an issue in my apps), would one be preferable to you guys over the other.

Both great oils. IF you don't have the need for a HM oil I'd go with the Synpower.

All of Valvoline's products are very good.

to BITOG. Tell the wife to take two aspirin and it won't bother her.

SynPower is a Group III synthetic and MaxLife if the synthetic version is also a Group III synthetic with a little thicker viscosity and some ester additives to help the old seals.

I might add that neither one will do a better job than the current oil you are using.

Would addying lubro moly Mos2 oil additive be a good, indifferent or bad idea to 6 quarts of 20w50 maxlife blend?

I just did it over the weekend.

Thanks. I've still got PP and PYB in the stash, but try to buy the best available with rebates.

I had a flickering oil light (hot, at idle) in the Sebring before starting the PP at 5K OCI's. It has not been back in over a year.

You have the BMW from your Signature? How does your Oil Look? Engine Feel? Is your Oil that Silvery Green Olive color?

If i were you, id applaud your selection as i use the same Oil.. and then not add Mos2 again. It seems there is no real telling what it will or wont do, and though its most likely Fine, it may make Sludge-like Globules of Moly.

One can should be good though. Note the mileage, and continue MaxLife use.

This is what I do.

SynPower is same Base stock and different Addy pack. I think ML is better, IMHO.

That is the BMW I use Maxlife. The oil is silver/gray olive looking and looks normal otherwise. I only have 120 or so miles on the oil since I added the Moly. It seems to run great. Seems quieter and smoother by my seat of the pants dyno.
