That's the good thing about GM trucks with their TOW/HAUL switch. Just put it in tow mode and the trans shift calibrations are all optimized for towing. Works great.

I find the shift programming (which is adaptive) in the 4R100 to be excellent for my use. The 4R70W is NOT adaptive however, so it may not handle these situations the same way.

My friend Jon's F-250 has Tow/Haul on his 5R110 and I do like the additional engine braking it provides. But it is not something that I think I would need unless I was hauling the kind of weight he hauls regularly, which I don't.

Does OK on flat ground but going up steep hills it just barely able to maintain speed. The 99 we had with the 4.6 actually crested a steep hill towing my car to the track doing about 25. We started out at the bottom at 65 with pedal to the floor on that hill.

Yes, I was able to accelerate up hills without issue, towing that car and weighing in at around 11,000lbs total. That's why I'm so confused about how anaemic yours seems to be!

BTW, nice picture

And yes, they are very similar! Is yours an XLT or EB?

I've got a video actually

You won't see anything, but you'll HEAR IT!

Car was purchased with an engine that had an issue. That's why we grabbed another shortblock on the way to get it.

Engine has TFS twisted wedge heads, custom camshaft from Camshaft Innovations, Weiand X-celerator intake, Holley 650DP carb, 7L pan....etc.

Car has full drag suspension, tubular K-member, 13.5" Cobra brakes, manual rack....etc.

Has gone a best of 12.4 @ 114Mph un-tuned on street tires.

If you want to know the diff ratio, just crawl under it (fun I know) and look at the tags on the rear diff cover. One of them will have like 3 L 5 5 if it has 3.55's for example and limited slip. You would have 3 5 5 for 3.55's without limited slip.

Cool I will crawl under when i get a chance and see what she has. What ratio options did these things come with? I am pretty sure it has limited slip.

Both of ours have 3.55's (mine, and mom and dad's). You could also get 3.73's IIRC.

Also, check your tranny. if it has a drain plug, it is a 4R100. No drain plug, it is the 4R70W.

We have the 4R70W in ours. the 03+ 5.4 get the 4R75W. The 4.6 gets the 70. I like it, it's a good, smooth shifting, well spaced transmission. And it definitely learns. After the battery was disconnected, it shifted poorly for a while, but gradually got better.

That may be new for the new body style in '03. it explicitly states that the 4R100 learns in the manual and that shift performance may be odd until the tranny re-learns. It outlines this clearly for the 4R100 and makes no mention of it for the 4R70W. So it may be something they added with the body changeover.

Bahahahahaha That's great.

that's an almost criminal amount of strain put on the car's engine, trans, frame, and axles.

If the car can't handle it there is something wrong. As long as the vehicle is at operating temps... It will be fine.
