Exactly. If and when they get their act together I'd consider using them again. IMO they aren't there yet.

And.....We are unlikely to ever know, if it gets fixed or not. If I don't use them, I will not be cutting then, so unless a bunch of other people take the risk.....

You're absolutely right. I saw the proof of the problems, I won't be buying them so I won't be cutting any open. I'll read about it here, then if/when I feel its safe to try it again, I might. But to be honest there are better filters, and I have a nice stash so I don't see me on the Purolator user list any time soon.

I just picked up 2 jugs of QSUD + PP1 oil filters ($2 upgrade) for $22 on the AAP fall special. I didn't realize the PP1 still have an unresolved issue with tearing. Now I'm going to have to go back and return these filters. I don't want the Driveworks filter that came standard with the promotion. Maybe they'll allow a substitute Carquest/Motorcraft since they're priced similarly???

The Puro Classic that was on my Corolla was only a few weeks old when I pulled it and cut it open and it had multiple tears. It only had a few hundred miles on it.

Removed the last Puro from my Sequoia a couple months ago, it had four tears....

Did you get the date codes by chance?

Rest easy, there have been zero legitimate reports of purolators tearing. There is a small sect of dedicated marketers that have infected this forum that has waged a campaign of misinformation which unfortunately has spread further then it should have. Use with confidence.

Upon what FACTS do you base your "informed" opinion?

The fact most everyone here has switched from Purolator to a brand where the innards don't tear. Which is another fact, they tear. Another fact is some have defective ADBV's. The next fact is Purolator has not said anything, so there is no knowledge of a fix. The last fact is there are maybe two people here with various aliases who like to contradict, at any cost, the facts. Enjoy the facts.

Thanks for the laugh this morning!

I am running a Purolator Classic on my Tacoma right now. I will be changing oil in about a month. I will try to post some pics when I change the oil/filter. This filter was purchased at Wally World about 2 months ago. Of course, I have no clue how long it has been on the shelf.

Date code on the filter is what you need to determine age.

I just realized I used a PP1 PL24651 for my Dec-May oil change. The filter spent a couple of weeks draining in the summer sun. Haven't taken it to the recycling center yet. Except for corrosion on about 50% of the metal base plate it looks fairly good. While I have a sawzall, I don't have a big enough vice to hold the filter. No tin snips either. Do the auto stores loan the filter cutting tools?

Exactly. I have one on my Altima right now. The synthetic Purolators are having no issues which I have heard of. So, I will cut this one up after I am done with it. I am running it probaly 10k miles.

cptbarker..

I may have posted this question in the past but again if you read what i wrote i simply asked if they ever fixed the problem and i may ask again in a couple of months because there may be more information in a couple of months i may have missed.. This is an oil forum just about every question here more or less has been asked many times over..If you want to believe there was never a problem with these filters and believe everyone is delirious that knows about the tearing issues maybe its you my friend that should seek professional help or maybe you are one of their employees sticking up for your job and if that is indeed the case i respect that.

I will make note of the code when done. Thanks

LoL ... I wouldn't respect anyone sticking up for failing products, even if they were delirious, and especially if they were associated with Purolator.

Tearolator was a well earned nickname. Who cares if they fixed their problem. Who would be stupid enough to buy them once you are aware of their horrendous quality?

I'd like to do that. I also have a PP1 on the car now from May due to come off in Dec sometime. Thing is, even if they are perfect, it wouldn't change the minds of most around here that already won't touch them. I suspect if every car owner were required to open up their oil filters after every OCI, we'd find a lot more brands with tears/failures. Wouldn't be surprised if longer OCI's has led to the PP1 failures. Imagine if someone happened to find a tear on another brand. From that point every BITOGER would open those up. More tears would be found. More inspections = more failures found.

Purolators made from December 2014-on should be fine and probably won't tear.

Date code starting with F12F... or FxxG... shouldn't have any problems

Not trying to be a wise guy but just curious what makes you believe that they improved after December 14 ?

Should be fine and probably won't tear does not sound so good.. Im hoping you are correct although i don't know if i could trust them again.
