I haven't found much on owners of 2002 and earlier Toyota Tundras considering Dex VI. The original toyota fill was Dex III (probably E). I looked back at an old Blackstone lab report on my truck at 20,000 miles. The sus viscosity was 42.5 (210 F). If my math is correct thats 4.96 cSt at 100 C. Looks like Dex III shears like mad in my Tundra. The "low" viscosity some people are concerned about with DexVI doesn't seem to be an issue if Dex III can't hold its viscosity. If Dex VI starts at 6, I doubt that it would shear to 4.9.

I have Mobil Syn in now (I'll get another viscosity measurement) - I plan to make a change in the summer to Dex VI, I'm seeing some prices in the $4-5 range per quart, whereas Mobil Syn in my area is near $7.

Anyone see something that I missed that could be bad for a Tundra? GM says its backward compatible, but I think they are only speaking for GM transmissions?

Unless you are having some kind of problem, why change? Does the lab report indicate unusual wear? I use the Dex III, Mobil 1 ATF in mine and I am happy with it. No problems. I don't change it often enough to worry about the price.

You should shop around. I think we are paying a little less than $6 per quart locally here. AVLube has it for a little over $6, but you have to pay shipping.

I've used M1 and recommend it. But, if you are shopping on price and you find DexronVI cheaper, I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

I also don't see the need to AutoRX everything. If you maintain your transmission, use quality fluids, and it functions normally, there is no reason to use ANY additive.

Good point, if the UOA sample of Mobil looks good, maybe I should stay. 12 quart flush at $7 a quart isn't bad for something that should go for +30k. The lab report before for Dex III noted the bad shear and copper (which might have been from break-in).

I was listening to a lot of hype this weekend for DexVI and I also saw a bunch of it starting to show up in stores. I think that last one I saw was Castrol.

PT1's comment on some test that showed better performance than Amsoil and Mobil also caught my attention. I know its just a post, but it still caught my attention.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Mobil 1 ATF in a 2002 or older Tundra, "Ain't broke."
Mobil 1 ATF, in applications it is approved for, is plenty good.

I was told that for my 83 MB trans that is specced for Dex-II (!) that Dex-VI would be A-OK... if that is the case, I see no reason why it wouldnt be perfect fr your application...
