Detailed a VW that has not been cleaned in years. Before and after.

Here’s another one. Badly neglected “work car”. It’s an old 1997 Jetta. 2.0l 5 speed manual. 187k miles. It was used for work, never cleaned or detailed for years.. I used a lot of Maguires products in the interior, then use chemical guys for the exterior. Here’s some before and after.

I power washed and stripped the paint, then I used a Maguires Synthetic hybrid paste wax as a base, then went over it again with chemical guys ceramic spray wax.

My GF in high school had a disgusting Dodge Shadow. My dad opened the doors and blew the car out with a Toro leaf blower.

Amazing! Has it lived in the PR of NY it's whole life? I haven't seen a Jetta of that vintage forever. It's got to be worth $15900 in today's market. Oh wait, it's a 5MT, $5900. Kidding..

Between the German engineering and the bolts that looked questionable, I decided not to do that, although would of been correct way to tackle it.

Sorry for so many replies and not in one, iPhone makes it hard to do that unfortunately on the mobile site.

99% of these Jetta’s are long gone now. The transmissions are fragile, expensive to fix if you can’t do it yourself, electrical issues like power door locks window regulators etc., keys that only the dealer can program, the performance of the 2.0l is not all that great, along with so so driving dynamics, and then rust and emissions or check engine light issues.

Overall though it’s been a pretty reliable car, for the past few years it’s always started and never broken down. It needed maintenance parts, but what high mileage car usually doesn’t. For being over 24 years old and still running and driving today is pretty amazing. This obd-2 Jetta does not have a check engine light nor ABS brake or any other light on the dash.
