I have a metal gun locker which I would like to add a desiccant to. It's pretty small, maybe 1ft by 2ft and 4-5ft tall. It's kept indoors in a climate controlled house and is not air tight so I don't think a powered dehumidifier is necessary.

Any suggestions for how much despicably I need? Any ones to look for or to avoid?

Desiccants aren't the ideal tool for containers that are " not air tight" . Something like a small 'golden rod' style of dehumidifier or even a small incandescent light bulb (really anything to raise the temperature inside the box a modest amount) would be my recommendation. If you want to go with desiccant, you could just buy somewhere around 0.5 lb of silica gel, throw it in some sort of breathable container, and then refresh it every month. For a lower maintenance solution, Hornday makes a pretty neat-looking desiccant self-contained silica gel dehumidifier that you simply pull out and plug into an electrical outlet to refresh.

Yep. For the size space you describe, either of these desiccant solutions would work pretty well.
