Desert monsoon rain

Got our yearly rain this morning . Monsoon rains can show up with no prediction. Never know where it will hit.

We got about 3 minutes of heavy rain which is just enough to bring the humidity up for this afternoons 100+ temps.

While I would miss the greenery if I lived in that area, at least theres no weekly grass to cut like there is here more than half the year.

Desert dirt is almost waxy, doesn't let water in or out. While I too hope some makes it down Chris' well he'll need more than this.

How's your well doing? This should help.

Well is currantly producing water. I can't measure the depth with the pump installed which is a bummer.

My well is in an aquifer that is filled by the flowing Mojave river after a heavy rain or snow melt. It takes 2 weeks from the first flow till the water reaches my well which then comes up 1 inch per day.

This sprinkle is not enough to raise the level any.

Huh? I don't think they did that 60 years ago when they drilled the well. The pump is on the bottom and every 50 ft or so is a torque arrester that expands to keep the drop pipe from allowing the pump to flop around when it starts. There is no way to get anything past that torque arrester.

Gotcha. Haven’t seen those in years. My family owned a water pump company in the Central Valley up until 98 when it was sold. I’ve probably pulled over a thousand submersible pumps & have only seen a handful of those.

Mines an 8 inch steel pipe sticking out of the dirt with a homemade metal cap on top. Those toque arresters are on every well around here.

I remember experiencing my first monsoon season in Mesa, Arizona.
I remember watching this wall of sand approaching from the west, the spectacular lightning, and then the heavy downpour of rain as it passed over. The crackle of the lightning and the way it streaked across the sky was surreal.

We got one yesterday, too. Been sooooo dry here. The problem of course is the lightning that can set our tinder forest ablaze, so you pray it actually drops water when the clouds roll in. I don't think Chris has much vegetation around him -- just a hot garage, a hot neighbor girl and snakes crawling all over the house.
