Just got my first order from rock auto and one of the filters (wix 57055) has a dent on the top. Its not big but you can definitely feel it. wondering if it's safe to use.

while it probably won’t be an issue, oil filters are cheap enough that i wouldn’t risk a compromised spring impacting the ability of the element to seal in the can. contact RA and see if they will refund or exchange. better yet, go buy a premium guard based filter for cheaper.

Shake the filter and see if it rattles at all. Filters with a leaf spring in the dome end can get deformed if the filter has been impacted. Not sure if these are using a leaf spring or a coil spring in the dome end these days. But the safe thing to do is not use it.

Doesn't look bad & shouldn't have any issue with that one. You can always ask RA what your options are if you'd like to though. Let us know what you decide.

They will probably ship you a replacement at no cost and not require you to send back the old. I ordered a Honda one from an online dealer that was dinged up on the top and upon asking I was sent a replacement.

Had the same question some years ago, from a RA order: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/crease-or-dent-in-wix-filter.292269/

I went ahead and got them to give me a new one (or perhaps just got my money back?). Returns are easy enough, if you can get used to the idea that you aren't going to be talking to a human being at RA.

You can read the replies I got. I played it safe and didn't use it.
I want to like Rock Auto but I still haven't gotten used to how hard they try to avoid human contact. Today's order had a couple fairly important mistakes and I'm not sure I want to keep dealing with that.
I'd run it.
I would too.

Rock Auto? I've found their customer service to be barely adequate at best. As I said, I want to like them.

Exactly. RA will tell you to just keep it and they'll send a replacement.
